Tom Kohler-Cadmore gets off his bed of pain to make up the eleven for this CC1 game.  It's Graham Thorpe Day as well but there's no sun yet in June.  Somerset have won the toss and we'll bat first.  We welcome Nathan Gilchrist back to the County Ground.  Thomas Rew will keep as his brother is busy at the moment.

CC1 v Warwickshire @ Taunton Friday 19 June 2026

The side return after the brilliant win but with less and less members available to make up the team We name 13 and hope one of the two returnees pass the fitness test.  Mr Lammonby does no but TKC does.  He won't have to keep however as our new youngest centurion Thomas Rew will do that while his brother does the same for England.

The side we finally get on the pitch is;

Josh Thomas, Jordan Hermann, TKC, Lewis Goldsworthy, Thomas Rew, Archie Vaughan, Craig Overton, Migael Pretorius, Jack Leach, Jake Ball, Josh Shaw

Alfie Ogborne does not make it to his second in a row after he had some kind of problem in the second half of the Notts game.  Craig will captain and Thomas will keep.  We have won the toss and we will bat first.

So Hermann (last game) and Thomas open against Bamber and Nathan Gilchrist (returning to the County Ground) in grey cool and overcast  - so bowling weather.

In the third over Bamber gets one to move away and Josh follows it straight into the hands of Davies and our first goes at 21 for 1.  Welcome back TKC a little earlier than we would have liked but at least we have a 'Tom' back in the side.  Unforytunately he snick his second ball to Yates at second slip and it's 'Thanks for getting the kit on' Tom and it's 21 for 2 with Bamber taking 2 in the over.  Out comes Goldsworthy and before he can face another ball Gilchrist sends Hermann back caught by Webster at third slip 21 for 3 in the 4th over.  Thomas Rew is in to try and complete the 4th.

We then settle a little and when Thompson comes on first change for Gilchrist at the River we have moved on to 43 for 3 at the start of the 12th.  Lewis has 14 and Thomas has moved on to 8

Barnard then replaces Bamber as we pass 50. In the 20th they introduce the spin of Suthar (who it seems they have signed for these two matches only).  The 50 partnership arrives in the next over off the bowling of the Warwickshire captain with Rew on 23 and Golders on 27 (101 deliveries).

Webster comes on in the 25th as we have stabalised this innings a little but it needs to continue to the other side of lunch at least to reset the beginning of this game.  The new bowler gets Thomas in two minds and has him shouldering arms plumb in front and he is LBW for 35 at 86 for 4 and Archie arrives in the middle with a job to do despite the 65 run partnership between the last two.  But he will not be pulling the side one as Baeau Webster takes him out caught by Hain at first slip (we now have the set) for 5 at 94 for 5 and that is lunch.  Not a great session one has to say!!

After lunch captain Craig Overton comes out to try and get his side back into the first day of this game.  He faces his ex teammate first and gets off the mark with two in the 32nd over.  Webster is back for more from the MT in conjunction with Gilchrist and he says goodbye to Overton who lays back and sends the ball straight to Malik at backward point for the two he had made.  In comes Jack Leach at 97 for 6.  He didn't look like he was going to be there long and after a torrid couple of balls from the Aussie he is also on his way caught behind for 0 - he did miss the first two of the three decent balls he saw.  97 for 7 brings Josh Shaw to the crease hot off his century at Lewis Gregory's testimonial game n the week as Webster finishes his 5th with figures of 5/2/9/4.  They do move to 3 figures as Goldsworthy moves to 34 from 102 balls.

Bamber is back for the 43rd and is through Goldsworthy 3 times in the over with no reward.  Lewis stays in and gets to his 50 (137 balls) with 6 fours at 144 for 7 off Suthar in the 46th.  Josh Shaw meanwhile has moved on to a 41 ball 25 to bolster the total and move the pair towards a significant partnership.  It becomes 50 of 91 balls at 147 for 7 with Lewis on 51 and Josh on 27 in the 48th over.

We go past 150 but then Josh sends one to the Hildreth and is well caught just inside the rope by Hain off Suthar.  He goes for a very solid and well crafted 28 at 152 for 8. The demoted Migael Pretorius is in next after seeing what we want to see from a number 8 rather than the batting performances we have seen from his this season to this point.

He's moved to 15 from 34 when they try their Indian spinner Suthar from the MT and he has him caught and bowled at 191 for 9.  Jake Ball is our last hope for getting past 200 as Barnard changes ends straight after Suthar.

The 200 arrives in the 64th over with Golders on 82 and Ball on 6.  Tea is now delayed as it's the last wicket so they'll give it the extra half hour.  Goldsworthy goes for it and pushes his score to 90 before he gets a top edge off a ball from Gilchrist.  He skies it to Hain at backward point and finally goes for 90 from 184 and Somerset are 208 all out and we have the Tea interval.

 After Tea Warwickshire start their reply facing Craig Overton from the pavilion end.  Davies and Yates come out for the visitors with Yates facing the first ball of the 31 overs left in the day.  The first is a maiden and Ball takes the second from the River and that produces a single as Somerset start tightly but Yates finishes the 5th with the first boundary, a full blown six into the Somerset to move the Warks score to10.  Jake however takes no notice and has Davies caught by the previous bowler for 3 with the first ball of the 6th.  10 for 1 and out comes Mousley at number 3.

Overton keeps it going as he has Rob Yates caught and bowled for 11 at 14 for 2 in the 7th over bringing Hain to the crease. They calm the whole thing down as we did in our innings and after 13 overs we have a full bowling change as Shaw replaces Ball just after Pretorius replaces the skipper at 34 for 2. 

In the 17th over, Warwickshire move past the 50 to 51 for 2 with Hain on 19 from 32 and Mousely on 15 from 35.  With 12 overs to go we see Somerset introduce spin into the equation as Jack Leach is on from the River.  He bowls a miaden with his first as well.  Miggy stays on at the MT having gone for 14 off his first 5.  The 50 partnership arrives just before there are 10 overs left at 67 for 2 via a four that Craig almost saves.  Hain moves to 30 with Mousley on 20.

By the end of the day both players have moved to 37 runs each and we finishe with the visitors on 92 for 2 with Warwickshire 116 runs adrift of the Somerset total with 8 wickets in hand.  It's going to be a pretty 'attritional' day tomorrow with the home side's bowlers needing to turn up early and take scalps.

Day 2

We start with an injury!! (so what is new?)  Migael Pretorius will not be taking part in any more of this game and he has been replaced by Alfie Ogborne.  No info yet as to why but we continue to wallow in 'InjuryLand' - it seems he has a suspected tear of a pectoral muscle

On we go however as Jake Ball takes the first from the River followed by Craig from the MT  They pass 100 and then Sam, Hain passes 50 at 113 balls and 114 for 2 which is also the 100 partnership between Hain and Mousley (presently on 44).  

Josh Shaw is first change from the River in the 42nd over.  Alfie Ogborne is the other change at the MT for the 43rd.  The floodlights then come and and at 122 for 2 and 11:50 in the morning the umpires take off the players for rain.  Though the umpires stay on and it seems they are off for 'bad light'.  They will restart at 12:40 and then taking lunch at 1:30.  We will lose 5 overs of the day

Josh Shaw starts proceedings from the River. Ogborne takes the duties at the other end and his first ball takes Mousley to 50 from 99 balls including 7 fours 128 for 2. At 129 Josh gets Mousley to play a false shot he doesn't connect properly with through to Thomas and he goes for 54.  That brings Webster to the crease and he helps to move the score to 138 for 3 at 12 minutes past 1.  They will take an early lunch before the other 5 balls of the 51st over are delivered.  Warwickshire are now 70 behind.

The rain does not stay away and play is delayed after the early lunch break.  The teams will return to the pitch at 2:15 having lost another 7 overs of play.

Alfie is back to finish his over before the break and the weather.  His last ball absolutely hooped in through the air.  Jake Ball is his partner for this start to a session

The 150 arrives in the 52nd and Hain then leaves as a very good ball comes off the shoulder to Craig Overton and the bat is out for 68 at 151 for 4 which brings the skipper Ed Barnard to the crease while giving Alfie some reward for his 6 overs for 22 and 1 wicket.

During Alfie's 55th he is hopping after every ball as if his setting foot is giving way and he is going off. Could we need a sub for the sub?  Craig Overton takes over at the MT.  The scoring is not easy this afternoon.  Barnard has faced 24 balls and is still not off the mark as the 61st ends at 169 for 4.  

Finally (or perhaps inevitably) we see Jack Leach on at the River with 54 oers remaining in the day and only 3 seamers available. He nearly has Barnard with his first ball as it shoots up off the something but doesn't seem to be anywhere near Rew's gloves.  Was it a drop?  Not sure.  Jack seems to think there was something but it is hard to see on the replay and Barnard is still there. 

The Brummie's skipper does finally get off the mark and we find ourselves is a bit of a difficult situation.  After Craig finishes we have a choice of either Jake Ball or Josh Shaw and then we have to look at the other spinners.  Jack doesn't seem to be getting anything from the surface (Barnard hits him for a Botham based six in his over) but if Alfie is not going to be OK then it's Archie, Josh T or Lewis Goldsworthy as the options left to COve.  The good news is that Alfie is back on the field of play but until he has been on for a while he will not be able to bowl and then we will se if he can.

Josh Shaw takes the 67th and Warks bring up 200 and also move the batting pair to a 50 partnership at 201  for 4 (82 balls).  Barnard has moved to 19 and Webster to 34 - although he does seem to have been out there for a long time (given the rain breaks).

Then Jack does get one to move and Barnard is very neatly stumped by Thomas Rew at 202 for 5 for 19.  Out comes Malik and 5 overs before the new ball we introduce Archie Vaughan at 223 for 5 from the River and then Jack changes ends to double up the spin.

Beau Webster passes 50 in the 78th over at 232 for 5 giving the visitors a lead of 24 just before the Tea interval.

Tea arrives at 241 for 5 with Malik on 13 from 48 and Webster with 58 from 95.  There are 34 overs left in the day 

After Tea Somerset take the new ball and give it to Jake Ball from the River. He will deliver the 82nd - the first of 34 in this final spell of Day 2.  He partners Craig as Alfie does not take the new ball - which suggests he isn't able to comfortably.  However, Jake is up for this.  A good delivery from him does for Beau Webster (extra satisfaction after his batting in the Blast game a couple of weeks ago).  He's dead plumb LBW for 64 at 249 for 6.

Thompson is the next man in while Malik brings up the 250 before the end of the over.  But 9 runs later Craig catches what seemed like a bump ball fromt he same bat only for it to be a non bump ball and Malik leaves caught and bowled by the Somerset captain for 16 at 259.  That brings out Warwickshire's new signing Suthar to show what he can do with the bat himself.

After spells fromthe 3 seamers we send Archie to the 'mound' for the 92nd at 280 for 7 with Thompson going for it with sixes to the Trade Nation and the Hildreth in the last few overs.  he has moved on to run a ball 24 while Suthar also opens his shoulders after a quiet start.  it is a pivotal part of the innings as Warwickshire have moved to an 80 run lead with 3 wickets still in hand.  A three figure lead into the second half would put them in control while we must be conscious that having to bat tonight and then again tomorrow morning would be a little nervous for us.

A piece of good news is that Alfie is re-introduced into the attack for the 93rd.  He completes the over but he doesn't look entirely comfortable from this end of the pitch.  The delivery aspect of his bowling seems to have some kind of problem and as has been mentioned in reports it has been noticed by umpires more than once so maybe they are trying to re-model his delivery or he's conscious of it ir he is carrying a foot injiury of some kind but something doesn't look quite right.

After another not convincing over from Alfie and with 20 left in the day's play Warwickshire move to very close to a 100 run lead at 295 for7.  In the 96th from Archie they break the 300 barrier with a six to the Somerset Stand.

Alfie does get back into his stride though and sends Jordan Thompson back at 304 LBW for 31 from 39.  The spinner Suthar and Bamber put up some resistance as there is debate about whether Warwickshire should declare to stop Somerset getting the third bowling bonus point (not excatly in the spirit of the game) but the visitors seem to be taking no notice of that.  Alfie makes that discussion moot at 321 when he has Manav Suthar LBW for a very valuable 28 to get the third one.  Nathan Gilchrist adds 7 before he is the last man out bowled for 7 by Jack Leach.  Warwickshire are all out for 330 which puts them 122 ahead with 12 overs left for Somerset to bat out.

After 10 minutes Jordan Hermann comes out for his last red ball game of the season with Josh Thomas  who would like to turn early promise into consistent scores.  Both have a job to do as they will be needing to set a sizeable total today and tomorrow in order to make Day 4 a valuable experience for the home side.

Gilchrist and Bamber look to make the ed of the day difficult for the home batters.  We take the need to stay there to heart and we are not taking chances, though Hermann has looked much LESS organised in this gasme than he did at Trent Bridge.  Nevertheless he is no mug and holds his line.  Warwickshire do have some hope in the 6th over as Gilchrist has Josh LBW for 6 at 12 for 1 and they hope for more before the close.  Josh Shaw comes in and does his job despite the attempt to confuse him with a couple of overs from Suthar.  We survive and will start Day 3 at 24 for 1 with one to Shaw and 17 from 11 to Hermann.  It's going to be a BIG day for Somerset!!

Day 3

Nathan Gilchrist starts the second half of this game from the River and we move on by 2 from it, a run to both the bats.  Bamber takes the first of the day from the MT. Quite quickly they turn to Suthar from the River (to be honest he bowled better from the MT in the first innings).  He is a handful.  Thompson comes on for Bamber in the 23rd..

Suthar tempts Hermann to slog sweep when we don't need those shots.  He is well caught By Nathan Gilchrist in from the boundary in front of the Caddyshack.  We really don't need expansive shots today Jordan.  49 for 2 as TKC arrives at the crease.  A four from Shaw takes him to 11 and us to 53 for 2.

At 69 for 3 Suthar gets TKC stumped.  He doesn't seem to come up the wicket, it just seems like he had his foot in the air and he's gone for 12 as Goldsworthy arrives at the crease.  It looks like Suthar may be our doom as he gets one to move and it takes the edge to slip.  He goes for a very solid 22 from some 80 odd balls at 80 for 4 (Suthar now has 3 for 27 from his 9.3 overs).  Out comes Thomas Rew to pair with Lewis Jr.  They have a hell of a lot of responsbility for what happens in the rest of this game as the last really viable pair.

At the end of the 41st over the new pair have moved to a partnership of 13 at 93 for 4 as Nathan Gilchrist finishes his 10th with figures of 19 for 1 with 3 maidens - he hasn't had a bad game so far.  Lewis Jr is on 9 from 33 and Rew Jr is on 6 from 22 in bright sunshine in and almost cloudless sky as the heat continues to rise.  

In the 43rd over Suthar holds the pair under 100 at 97 with a maiden but the first ball of Webster's 44th is driven by Rew for the four that brings up the Somerset 100.  The over ends with a probable dro[ as Goldsworthy sends a full blown shot into the midriff of the close fielder only for him NOT to hang on to it.  Weird thing is that the effort seems to have been completely missed by both the Somerset commentators Vic and Steve Lamb who made no comment about it at all!!  Somerset survive not going into lunch 5 down. They do that at 104 for 4 with Goldsworthy on 14 from 52 and his partner Thomas Rew on 12 from 32.  Not the greatest of sessions for the home side and this game is still very much in the balance but skewing dangerously towards Warwickshire with 5 sessions to go.

After the break Bamber starts what his county will hope is the decisive session for them.  The Somerset pair hope to stay there and move this game on.  First they need to remove the 18 run deficit we have in the game and then start putting together a defendable  target for Day 4.  It's a BIG job for the afternoon.

The afternoon session starts well as Suthar joins the highest wicket taker in CC1 presently looking to take the game away.  However the batting pair are fighting for survival and move the score into the 120s as we move into the 54th over.  Unfortunately at 125 with the start of the 55th over Bamber spears one in and Lewis misses it and is caught in front to be LBW for 20 from 79.  This brings Archie Vaughan to the middle in need of runs and needing to stabilise the innings with Rew.  The new pair work against Suthar and Bamber until the attack changes to Webster and Gilchrist as they move past the 60th over and we target 150 runs because every run now adds to our lead and we need every run we can get.

Unfortunately Archie does not see the 150 as Gilchrist sends him back to the dressing room at the end of the 63rd over for 7 from 28 foolishly trying to hook him down the legside straight into the keeper's gloves - we really didn't need that at 148 for 5.  Craig strides out in another captain's situation with his youngest player at the other end on 38 from 79 but only 26 runs ahead with a long tail after him.  Warwickshire are over the moon and it looks like it might be the last gasp of this game for the home eleven.

That's three unintelligent shots from three bats we really needed better from and despite a solid innings from the nightwatch bat we are in real and considerable trouble with most of the last 5 sessions of this game still in front of us.

The skipper is still on zero as Thomas guides the ball for four to take us over 150 to 153 for 6.  He has moved on to 12 and the score has moved to 171 when our young star passes 50 for the third time in 3 innings at 172 for 6 off 95 balls including 8 fours. Overton adds his own shots to the score and the pair move into the 70 overs and see the new ball on the horizon.  They seem keen to get the score past 200 before the 80th threshold and they reach 188 against the speedy spin of Mousley in the 78th.  Suthar is on for the 79th and is close to seeing the back of Overton but the umpire was not convinced it would have hit.  Rew gets the single to move him on to 61 and Somerset to 200.  Overton has moved to 29 and their partnership has also moved past 50 to 52.

Warwickshire do not waste any time and take the new ball straight after the 80th over.  There are at least 35 overs left in the day but the over rate is very high and reaches +13 at one point so there may very well be more overs than that bowled before the cut off time of 6:30 this evening.  Bamber is back to start the second new ball attack at 201 for 6.  Gilchrist partners him fro the other end. Four overs of the new ball bring us to the Tea interval at 224 for 6 with Rew at 71 and Craig moving towards a vital captain's 50 at 42.  The lead is 3 figures (102) and Somerset fans have a little more hope that we can survive the day and take this game into the last one.

Back out after Tea Bamber and Suthar take to the fight again.  Two overs on and the Somerset boss takes his personal score past 50 (from 87 balls 7 fours and 1 six) cutting Bamber in the 87th over for four to the Somerset Stand at 234 for 6.  

In the 91st over the next target is close as the score moves towards 250 but both Bamber and Suthar are unwilling to give their opponents that score and it is not reached until Thompson returns for his 9th over and the pair pass their 100 run partnership at 248 for 6.  Overton strikes the ball towards the boundary and takes the single that moves his side to 350 with his own score on 56 and his keeper on 81.

Progress continues and the lead passes 150 in the 98 from Suthar as Overton runs a quick single.  Rew has now moved into the 90s and his second century in two games beckons.  He goes to 99 with a swept four off Thompson in the 98th.  Barnard takes the 99th.  A short ball is pulled away for his first home century (103) from 171 balls with 16 fours.  His first was at Trent Bridge last weekend but THIS is is home one so it's extra special.  He is hugged by his skipper because it is also very important as it ,moved the Somerset lead on again as it now stands at 160 with a minimum of 16 overs yet to be bowled tonight.

 We move on and they keep this partnership increasing.  With 10 overs left in the day's play Somerset are starting to look at the 300 score arriving.  They've called Mousley back into the attack to try and make something happen.  Gilchrist also returns for the 107th over and it arrives at the end of his over with COve on 71 from 148 and Rew on 114 from 196 and the partnership crossing the 150 run mark to 152.

And yet we carry on and as Mousley starts the 112 over the Somerset lead looks to cross the 200 run mark and tomorrow is becoming more than a question of survival.  At 323 we go into the next phase as Overton moves into the 80s and the close starts to come into view with only 3 overs left in the day and the opposition turn for the first time to the offspin of Yates to look for some kind of breakthrough at the end of a long day in the field.  As he bowls his second at 230 for 6 we all think that is it.  BUT it is only 6:15 and though the minimum number of overs has been bowled there is still 15 minutes to the close of play at 6:30.  So they take a drink, reset and continue.

Suthar comes back on at 232 for 6 - he's bowled 33 overs today and has been a threat all the way through.  He and yates take us through to the close at the end of the 119th over of the day. and an absolutely thrilling fightback from the Somerset boys after quite a few disappointing dismissals in the day.  341 for 6

Overton comes off to a standing ovation for a phenomenal captain's supporting innings of 89 from 179 balls, helping the collosal talent that is Thomas Rew score 133 runs from 237 balls to take his county to a lead of 219 with 4 wickets still in the hutch - who would have thought that was possible when these two come together.  Their partnership is presently 194 as they came together at 148 for 5 and this game is defintely going into the fourth day.  All results are still possible in this one.  The fightback is by no means over yet and none of the possible outsomes is a foregone conclusion.  But all in all it hasn't been a bad Father's Day and the Somerset prospects for Monday are far far better than they were at lunchtime today.

And as an aside.  This partnership was a new record beating the one In 1957 at Edgbaston between Harold Stephenson and Ken Palmer of 140 - so it's gone up a bit and may even rise this morning (fingers crossed).

Day 4

Glorious sunshine this morning - the sun has just got better as this game has gone on.  Off we go at 11 with 96 overs in the day.  The first is to Craig from Suthar he goes to 90 off the first.  Thomas leaves his first (not a good decision) and is nearly out LBW but the ball tickles towards the pavilion boundary and the score gets 2 byes instead.  Bamber is on at the River.  He presently has 37 wickets as the leading bowler in the CC1.  Craig is 4 behind him... but has a batting average to 48 to boot so...

A number of different targets then appear together.  The first is the 200 partnership (357 balls) which comes from the bat of Rew off the bowling of Bamber in the 123rd over at 248 for 6.  The next is the 350 second innings total which also comes up in the same over also from the bat of Thomas. We then wait for the best of these but it finally comes with a straight four to MT - 206 balls, 13 fours and 1 six  - a third century for the SOMERSET CAPTAIN Craig Overton at 358 for 6 off the bowling of Bamber in the 127th.  Suthar is replaced by Yates for the 128th 

Webster is brought into the attack to try and winkle these two out but they are playing a mature and sensible version of a Somerset 'first hour' this morning.  It does all come to an end though as Craig is adjudged LBW on 111 from Yates at 381 for 7 - there was some doubt in that but well played skipper.  Out comes Jack Leach.  We hope he will help REW past the 150 point but he is strangled down the legside by Webster and Davies after 287 balls for a new career best of 149 at 381.  With 8 wickets down, out comes Alfie Ogborne.

One interesting aspect of the conditions is that Yates is getting more turn than Warwickshire's Indian spinner from the River (having bowled for the first time in the game last night at the end of play).  Suthar did get more from the MT than the River in the first innings but Jack must be taking all this in for later today... with luck.

An excellent boundary drive from Jack off Webster at the end of the 139th takes him to 9 and moves us close to a 400 score.  A missed 4 byes at the start of Yates' next takes us to within 2 runs of that and two scrambled singles moves us to 400 for 8 in the 140th over and a lead of 278.  It may still not be enough.

Suthar finally changes ends to the MT and Leach takes him on to move to 19.  The spin doubles up as Yates stays on at the River.  The experiment does not last long as Gilchrist returns at the MT with the lead at 29.  His first ball results in a glance between first slip and the keeper from Alfie which both fielders watch speed to the boundary.    Suthar seems unimpressed with the Trescothick end and has returned to the River.  Meanwhile we move to a lead of 298.  In the 150th over a guided single from Ogborne moves us to 423 and a 301 lead with him on 11 and his partner on 21.

There's a little bit of confusion as Alfie is bowled by Suthar form the last ball of the 152nd over and so Warwickshire take the extra half hour as Jake Ball comes out as the last man and after 4 he chops on to Suthar who finishes with a 5-fer for 100.  Somerset are 435 all out at Lunch from 153and a half overs and Warwickshire need 314 to win.  Nicely set up. 

The afternoon statts with Overton to Yates and Malik.  He is followed by Ball from the River and it is 1 for 0 after two.  There are 59 overs left in the day.

After 7 overs, expectations may be being re-assessed as Warwickshire look in no trouble really at 17 for 0 with Malik on 8 and Yates on 1.  This results in a change in emphasis and birthday boy Jack Leach is introduced from the River.  This spell may decide the nature of the result or this fixture.  The double change happens as Alfie takes over at the MT for the 9th after Jack goes for 1.  He does not go so well as Yates takes 8 off his first.  There still seem to be issues with whether he runs n the pitch and a third umpire points out where he is landing.  This 'falling' business could be the bowler and the coaches trying to deal with the fact that Alfie tends to turn in after his delivery rather than turning out and this means he is close to running down the pitch. It may be these changes are messing with his delivery and that is causing him to hop and fall over more often - its just a theory of course.

Meanwhile Jack breaks through as Malik is caught by Overton for 12 at 30 for 1 which brings Mousley in. In his next over Alfie is officially warned for running on the pitch and after that is is hopping again in his delivery.  It must be an issue they are looking to rectify and they may take him off for the 12th.

Meanwhile Jack takes a second as Mousley is caught at leg slip by Archie off an inside edge for 2 at 34 for 2.   Alfie stays on for the 13th.  He isn't completely happy but is working manfully at his job.  Hain is the new man at the crease for the visitors after the Mousley dismissal.

Archie comes on for the dual spin option at the MT after Jack's next and Warwickshire pass 50 in the 15th over with Yates on 24 and Hain on 2.  Unfortunately the afternoon flattens out and by the 29th Warwickshire have moved to a massive 67 for 2 with Yates at 31 from 89 and Hain 12 from 54. 

Lewis Goldsworthy is on with more spin from the River.  They take 2 boundaries and walk in for Tea at 75 for 2 needing 239 to win.  It is looking very much less of a prospect than hope suggested at lunch. 

The sides return after 20 minutes and we have about an hour of the game left unless there is a flurry of wickets or runs between now and about 5pm.  Despite the exceitement of the past 24 hours it does look like the game is headng for the draw which neither side would be too unhappy about.

Jack is starting from the MT which is a little unusual.  It seems that he is making way for Josh Shaw from the River.  Yates and Hain reach a 50 partnership at 84 for 2.  The weather may still have a say in this game because the atmosphere has become oppresively hot over the afternoon and the clouds are starting to suggest we may have a summer storm before the end of play.  At 4:10 the umpires ask for the lights to come on because the clouds have definitely made the conditions deteriorate.

At 4:20 the grondstaff have got the mating ready on the boundary edge so they seem to be expecting a least a play stopping shower.  The cloud is most definitely deepening in it's 'greyness' behind the flats in the direction of the bridge and river in Taunton.

The umpires are chatting between overs and we re-introduce Archie at the River.  Yates is moving towards a 50 and he reaches it moving to 51 from 122 balls just before the weather arrives putting an end to anything else today and the game is drawn as the rain stops play and brings Day 4 to a close.

A fair enough results really.  We nearly lost this one on our first innings performance, we clawed it back from the depths thanks to the phenomenal performances of Overton and Rew and for a short period of time we might have thought of a collosal victory.  But the pitch was never going to bring us that on the last day - it just did not have enough for a 10 wicket day.  The seamers bowled manfully and the spiners found a little something but it was always an uhill task and we take the 8 points plus the 3 bowling bonus ones.  It keeps us in the hunt and anything can still happen in this remarkably open CC1 season.  but we return to the mess of our Vitality Blast campaign with the second half of the West Country derby on Friday.  Staying in that one is a much bigger job which we may not be up to.  But that is a story for another day.  This game had things that will stay in the annals of Somerset history where the chapter about the Rew brothers has another chapter and the name of Thomas Rew has been written once more - and not for the last time I can guarantee.

Both Tom Lammonby and Tom Kohler Cadmore are pencilled in for a return to combat in Somerset's squad for the match against Warwickshire starting tomorrow.

The only others available are Zach Vukusic or Ollie Coleman. JT Langridge would also be a name but he is not a bowling allrounder as such.

As they haven't named either of them they must have faith in one of the two renamed players being fit enough. The last time we were this deep into injuries was 2011 I believe.

I think they've allowed Alfie a step back after he had a fairly torrid time at Trent Bridge on Monday. He fell over so many times in his follow-through that he may also have some bruises and soreness. (I noticed that although he played in Lewis Gregory's testimonial match in Newton Abbott on Tuesday, he was one of only two in the team who didn't bowl.)

Seems he has a suspected pectoral muscle tear.

I really don't inderstand why we've had the best part of half an hour 'declaration speculation' from the commentators on the live stream when there was still, when they started, 12 or so overs left and under 50 runs needed by Warwickshire to secure their third batting point - and if they had declared before the ninth wicket fell, they would have had to defend the notion that they had done so to deny Somerset a third bowling point.

I'm on holiday for the next three weeks - huzzah! - and I only checked the score twice today: 80-odd for four and now 341 for six.

What looked like a certain loss, and a big one, to at least some chance of a win. That young Rew's a bit of a find, isn't he?

My not wholly reliable calculation suggest that Rew Jr has scored 570 first class runs so far this season at an average of 81. I trust those marking his A Level papers will take these astonishing figures into account.

There is an issue with Alfie's bowling it seems. A number of umpires this year have identified concerns about where his foot lands after his deliveries. He has been warned in two different games about running on the itch and it seems this is where the 'falling over' aspect has come from.

He seems to be looking to change how he lands in order to fall out instead of in and is not completely sure about it so is hopping after the deliveries or falling over. He has been warned in this game and then after another over has been taken off... he does not seem comfortable at the moment and it may very well be a work in progress.
