Two wins and a home Sunday fixture against the Welsh with the sun out and Taunton full to bursting with Somerset and Glamorgan fans for a women's Charlotte Edwards Cup game between the Storm and the Stars in the afternoon before the Blast game in the evening. Can Somerset continue the winning ways?

Well Western Storm fell 5 runs short with one ball to go as the South East Stars defended their 126 for 6 and bowled out the Storm in 19.5 overs for 121.
Nor suprisingly Somerset are unchanged for the later game and Lewis Gregory wins the toss and will chase once again so we take the field and welcome back Eddie Byrom and his Glamorgan team mate Sam Northeast to start the game at 6:30.
Craig Overton took the first over against his former team mate and nearly got his wicket due to a valiant diving effort by Ben Green. Matt Henry has the second over from the MT end but Byrom has gone off like a train and the visitors are scoring at 10 an over reaching 21 1 ball into the third with Eddie on 19. Nevertheless COve stays on task and has Northeast caught by Tom Lammonby for 2 runs. Carlson replaces him playing and missing at both of his first two deliveries.
Peter Siddle takes the 4th after Henry had problems at the start of his first over with a hole appearing in the foothold area of the bowling crease at the MT end one ball into the second over. Buckets of sawdust appeared and it all looked a bit of a mess. Matt Henry has not bowled his next over (which he has done so up until this fixture) and there is early speculation about whether he has twisted something.... Anyway Byrom continues his onslaught and sixes the Aussie early in the 4th.
Staying with the other part of our strategy, Craig continues to bowl through with the 5th and he is faced by an ex Somerset man who is keen to get on with things taking risks that are coming off mostly. Byrom brings up the Glamorgan 50 with a 6 at the end of the 5th.
At the end of Siddle's next over the Powerplay has resulted in 57 runs for 1 with Eddie on 33 and Carlson with 21. It's all looking good for the Welsh!! Roelof takes the 7th and goes for 5. Ben Green is introduced for the 8th and with Byrom still going for it, a late boundary moves the score to 70 for 1.
RvdM finally breaks through having Byrom stone dead LBW for 42 with the second ball of the 9th. 71 for 2 and in comes ex Somerset T20 signing Ingram!! (We need him out quickly). Carlson looks to keep the momentum going and he goes BIG only to be caught by Tom Abell and Glamorgan move to 84 for 3 at the halfway stage with Ingram joined by Cooke.
Green takes the 11th but the introduction of Lewis Gregory provides the next breakthrough when he teams up with Abell to remove Ingram in the 12th at 94 with a Somerset Stand boundary catch. Kellaway and Cooke look to take their side over three figures and set a competitive total which means they need to push the score over 150 on this warm Sunday early evening.
However, we have RvdM and he has other plans, shown when he has Kellaway caught by COve halfway through his next over 1 run below the 100. Billy Root is the next man in and he puts the 100 on with a quick single. Tight overs from Gregory and Green increase the pressure and with 5 overs to go Glamorgan only have 113 and nowhere near a par score.
Somerset re-introduce Henry for the 16th (to sighs of relief from fans) and although he goes for 10 he does have Cooke caught at Cow Corner by the ever present Overton. Douthwaite replaces him but he doesn't stay long as he become Rvdm's third wicket in the 17th caught in front of the CA by Henry. Smith comes in as our 'Dutchman' finishes with 3 for 24 off his 4.
Siddle takes MT duty for the 18th and has Root punching straight to Abell at the Somerset. He doesn't drop those and Root goes for 18 at 135 for 8. In comes Glamorgan's newest international Hatzoglou to face Ben Green in the 19th. He top edges the Somerset bowler in form at the end of these games and is caught at extra cover by Lewis - 139 for 9. Peter takes the 20th and he furnishes the last courtesy of COve. Glamorgan are all out for 153. Good fighting performance from the visitors but you have to think it isn't enough on this wicket.
Somerset Reply
Carlson starts at the MT for the visiting side and Tom Banton takes up the familiar place of opening Somerset's response. He has a confidence about him today and he takes the Glamorgan bowler for 12 (before reverse sweeping in his first over - theres confidence and then there's over confidence I think). McIlroy takes the second and they introduce the spin of Hatzoglou as early as the third. He has a strange preparation and run in but does not impress Banton who takes him for 23 with 2 sixes, a weird reverse plus a number of on the floor boundaries. By the time Smith takes the 4th the home side are 41 up.
Will Smeed who is still looking for form and seems happy to play second fiddle to his partner brings up the 50 with a sublime straight four with the 5th ball of the over. McIlroy continues with the 5th and Somerset are clicking in at over 10 an over with 61 after 5. Smeed breaks out of his retraint and the first time he does it he plops the ball from Douthwaite in the 6th to Ingram who gratefully holds on 69 for 1. TKC strides out and takes our Powerplay score to 72.
Hatzoglou provides a better second over going for 7. Kohler-Cadmore goes after Smith in the 8th and is caught by Ingram trying too hard after 2 sixes (1 to the Hildreth and 1 to the Somerset). He skies the third and leaves with 19 off 12. In comes Abell and he helps the score past 100 in the 9th off Hatzoglou.
Tom Banton completes an excellent 50 (26 balls, 8 fours and 1 six) in the 10th with a great orthodox drive off Douthwaite. He then spoils it by 'flapping' one to mid off and leaving a job mostly done for 54 at 116. In comes Tom Lammonby for the first game with a bit of a job to do though there are 10 overs to do it. It isn't going to be Lammonby's day however though as he 'bunts' a sort of pull to Kellaway without scoring. He makes way for Gregory to sort the end out.
Hatzoglou finishes his spell with the 11th. 0 for 50 looks worse than he bowled to be fair. Douthwaite takes the 12th but Kellaway thought he made a breakthrough in the 13th after Root does well to get to a first drive from Abell but not when he hits the second a bit harder. 140 for 4.
It isn't until Smith bowls Abell in the 15th that there is any good news for Glamorgan though they have tightened up because the score has only moved to 141 for 5. Green comes out and Gregory deposits a full toss for 6 to take the runs needed to 6 to win. the 150 is up with the 3rd ball of the 15th and Green finishes the game off with a boundary from the next ball.
Third win by 4 wickets with 31 balls to spare. Things are STILL looking up. Pretty convincing win that.

They have added off-spinner Shoaib Bashir to the 13 on duty last night at Hove, where Somerset kept their 100 per cent record. And Glamorgan, who opened their account with a last over win over Glo`shire in Bristol, have recruited Aussie leg-spinner Peter Hatzoglou as overseas player in place of quickie Michael Neser, who has been called into the Australian Test squad.

Don’t know why Bashir has been included, but I’d be surprised if he plays.
I'm guessing that a number of those wouldn't have been taken in the days of the John Player League and the B&H (showing my age here) - and in some cases I don't think the catch would even have been attempted!
And that Tom K-C can hit a ball, can't he?!

The fielding is one thing that I concede has improved by the proliferation of what I call trash cricket. I accept it is really skilful but seeing Thunder’s captain Ellie Threlkeld batting well and then getting out to a ramp shot the other day confirmed my feeling that the new shots it has brought in are only for very the very highest echelons of players and harmful to the rest . Besides, the pace of the ball isn’t enough in women’s cricket to play the shot.
The biggest problems though are how weighted it is in favour of the bat, with often ludicrously short boundaries, very heavy bats and a white ball that seldom moves off the straight
For those reasons, it is those few bowlers that are capable of doing well fairly consistently in T20 that impress me more than any batsman (even than Jos or Chris Gayle etc). Lasith Malinga, for example, was amazing in the format.

There was an issue with the footholds after one ball of Matt Henry's first over... he hasn't bowled since the end of that one, Siddle did the initial pairing with COve.... hope this is a change of plan and not an injury issue because of the footholds.

Anybody want to bid for a collectors' item at the end of the T20 tournament: at least one unused Somerset batting top. Siddle wore his at Hove, perhaps thinking he might otherwise not get a chance to do so.

VDM excellent, as often. Great start from Craig. Brilliant sixth over from Siddle. Gregory did well.
The only possible fly in our ointment, thus far, is that, of the batters, only TB, TKC and, to a slightly lesser extent, TA, have looked like they are going to get many runs…. Which makes me think that if we have an innings where we don’t start well, then turning it around might prove tough.

Nice atmosphere and good conditions. I don’t like being gouged £5.70 for a pint of Thatchers, but maybe that’s just me being Victor Meldrew again.
If we can maintain this focus and discipline, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t go all the way this year.

I'm no Surrey fan but they do things very differently to us.
They have more money & London appeal granted, but they operate a clear squad system, people sensibly rotated, rested & they all buy into it.
Josh was left out of one game & went straight on loan.
Surrey are blessed with numerous all-rounders so they don't have a fixed batting line up.
Jamie was at 5, maybe 6 I believe Thursday at Lords.
Just maybe Alec Stewart knows more about how to run a professional cricket squad than Agod, barmy suggestion I know 🤔🤔
That doesn't show a lot of acumen from Mr Stewart - I mean, if their top order fire? He would do nothing but field!!
And, of course, there is the minor detail that, er................. it didn't work yesterday and they lost!

Goldsworthy has been named in 2nd XI squad to play Worcestershire at the Vale this afternoon. So TL’s place safe for now. No Kasey Aldridge in 2nd XI squad. Injured or are they taking him as extra option to Canterbury tomorrow evening?
That is how a fluid batting line up works, you change positions based on the game situation.
Surrey have so many batting & bowling options in every 11 meaning it's never a case of 5 bowlers bowling 4.
Even we managed to not use Rvdm on Wednesday (rightly) and he then came into his own Friday & Sunday.
Jamie is also probably their best outfielder, as Craig is for us, I'm sure that is also a factor.
I'm sure Jamie will be touched by your ongoing concern for his career 😜😜
Think that was why Josh got the loan gig and probably why Surrey is playing Jamie before he is totally ready to bowl.
