As the weather and the prospects of God's own county improved, we came to the new innovation of the ECB. New 'county' players arrived to play in a different format and 'cricket' as some people defined it took a month off!
As Somerset's season started to settle into something interesting and with Murali Kartik arriving from the IPL, the Championship and the CB40 stopped entirely. As the summer kicked into high gear with warm days of elongated sunshine, the season turned its attention entirely to 3 hour games of cricket between 5:30 and 8:30 in the evening. Welcome to the Friends Provident T20 tournament!
For some, the cricket season stopped and there was no 'cricket' in June. For others we used an exciting new format to attract the non watching masses and pull the Victorian version of the summer game kicking and screaming into the Third Millennium.
For the management here was the financial heart of the season. Pack 'em in, sell 'em booze and food and entertain them. To that end we welcomed the arrival of two more Somersetians; a returnee in the form of Cameron White and a debutant in maroon and grey in Trinidad and Tobago's very powerful Keiron Pollard. I'm not going through the problems that ensured that Cam's visit was two days with no appearances rather than a fully blown playing visit. He was seen in Taunton, he stayed at the Castle for a couple of days but his registration was botched or misunderstood and we found (to out cost) that he couldn't play for us because he wasn't eligible under the rules. We flew him in, we flew him back and we apologised profusely
Kieron was another thing entirely. A mighty man with bat and ball on his day and coming with a huge IPL price tag/reputation, he stepped off the plane on a Tuesday and turned out in the black kit (dangerous looking !!) for his new county on the Wednesday at the home of cricket Lord's. That only meeting with Middlesex of the 2010 campaign will always be know for the argument about whether one of his early hits actually cleared the Lord's Pavilion based on the rules that existed the only other time it was done (by Victor Trumper I think). KP's shot landed about three rows from the back of the third tier of seats. the third tier did not exist when Trumper achieved the unique feat. All we saw was a man who had everything and could hit a ball absloutely miles from anywhere in front of his stumps. He didn't need to be in long, we just had to get him in. he was more than fair with the ball as well.

The apology was once given by Brian at the Taunton AGM when he accepted that the Cameron incident had been unfortunate and I think you'll find that you picked up on the point at the time that when Richard apologised at the full AGM he said that Cameron remained a friend of the club (I think you used that in some implied slight within the last month).
