Billy Twelvetrees was given the honour of the last kick as the curtain came down on his fantastic career at Kingsholm. Sadly, he missed as Sale cemented their second place with a 25-22 win, while the hosts are now languishing in tenth place after five straight defeats. Summer shake-up on the cards?

As the score-line suggests it was an entertaining Saturday evening game. 

Sale led 10-3 at the break with the try coming from  Jean-Luc du Preez's. However, yellow cards for Tom Curry and Manu Tuilagi allowed Lewis Ludlow and Louis Rees-Zammit to take advantage with a spectaluar finish from the Welsh wizard in the corner.

Unfortunately, the Cherry and Whites  couldn't hold on with Jono Ross and Sam James crossing.

Jonny May got a late try to get the nonus point - taking a crossfield kick from Hastings - and the honour of finishing proceedings went to Billy. It would have been a perfect end for him if he'd nailed it,  but it wouldn't have made a difference to the sad looking points table. Instead, he went off to do more important things courtesy of a sponsored haircut to raise funds for Ed Slater..

Only one game to go - at Bristol on May 6th - then the inquest will begin.
