A last minute conversion from the touchline is a wonderful way to win a game but a dreadful way to lose one as George Skivington can testify. His side had been magnificent in running Sarries so close on their own ground and great heart can be taken from the 41-39 defeat.

Owen Farrell was the man to break Cherry and White hearts with not one but two late magnificent conversions.

But Gloucs went in only three points down after Val Rapava-Ruskin got one back and then the driving maul proved to be their potent weapon. Fraser Balmain , Rapava-Ruskin and Hastings all went over from close range before Sarries fought back courtesy of replacement Hallett.

Hastings' boot took the score to 39-27 and  there was real hope that Gloucs could close the game out. However, Sarries had other ideas.

Replacement hooker Wolstencroft showed some neat footwork to reduce the lead to five points thanks to Farrell's added extras. Wolstencroft then crossed again to level the scores and set up Farrell for that nail-biter - he duly did nail it.

A bitter blow but on reflection Gloucs can take so much from this game.
