Last Ditch Try

Gloucester came so close to the perfect start to the new year. We matched the champions in most areas and had enough chances to win the game. However, Quins' once again showed they have the ability to manage their games and went home 20-17 winners.

We started well going into a 10-0 lead. Ruan Ackermann was unstoppable from a well rehearsed line-out move with Hastings adding the conversion and slotting a penalty. 

By then we should have had more, but nobody was more upset than poor old Val Rapava Ruskin who knocked on as he went to finish off a superb move which had started in our own 22.

Typically Quins took points on their first visits to our 22. They equalised through a Marcus Smith penalty and a converted Luke Northmore try.

Northmore was sent to the bin for a deliberate knock-on, which could well have denied Louis Rees-Zammit a breakaway try.

Quins pressed and eventually Danny Care found space from the base of a scrum with another Smith pen giving them a 10 point lead.

Roared on by a holiday crowd we girded our loins and battled  back up the picth for Santiago Socino to finish off a rolling maul. An excellent Hastings' conversion taking us to within three points with three minutes left.

However, Quins were able to hold out and we had to settle for a single point. Judging by that performance we will get plenty more in  2022.
