Out But Not Down

Ackermann Try

We came up against a class outfit in La Rochelle but played more than our part in a highly entertaining and competitive last-16 Champions Cup game.

Gloucs were in the contest for the first hour but the side which is second top of Top 14 were worth their 27-16 win.

We were dealt a blow before kick off with Louis Rees-Zammitt limping our of the team run - Charlie Sharples taking his shirt.

Chris Harris looks for a pass as he is tackled by La Rochelle's Jules Favre durin

We did well to stay in touch first half going in 15-13 down. La Rochelle second row Will Skelton's offload led to Leyds scoring and worse was to come when winger Retiere went over in the corner.

George Barton kicks a conversion during the Heineken Champions Cup match at KingsGloucs came back with Ruan Ackermann wriggling his way over and the excellent, and fearless, young Barton once again adding the extras.

A sin-bin for skipper Lewis Ludlow, and an injury to Charlie Sharples, set us back as we defended manfully. However, West kept the points ticking over for the men in yellow.

Plenty to be happy about against top quality opposition.
