So once again the Cherry and White faithful went home disappointed as a 34-20 home defeat against West Country rivals was hard to swallow.

We did get  three tries - a brace from Jonny May  and another from Lewis Ludlow but should have had more thanks to the territory we enjoyed.Gloucester’s Willi Heinz tries to ground the ball during the Aviva Premiership match at Kingsholm,

There was a host of missed chances and some poor decision making whereas the Chiefs were much more clincial when they were given a sniff.

So we finish eighth. Frankjly noty good enough for the customers of The Kingsholm Inn whose hopes of European Championship rugby next season now lie north of the border where victory on Friday would get us into the play-offs.

All to play for. Lots to lose.

Not tempting fate but this is how things would stack up if we beat Stade Francais whi, incidenatlly are alrwady in the play=offs as they finished 7th in the Top 14! So we could actually end up playing them again in the play-off final.

The play-offs will include the following clubs:

  • The seventh-ranked club from the TOP 14, or the winner of the Challenge Cup if from the TOP 14 and not already qualified for the Champions Cup.
  • The seventh-ranked club from the Aviva Premiership (Saints), or the winner of the Challenge Cup (hopefully Glaws) if from the Aviva Premiership and not already qualified for the Champions Cup.
  • The eight and ninth-ranked clubs from the Guinness PRO12, or the winner of the Challenge Cup if from the PRO12 and not already qualified for the Champions Cup. This club will take the place in the play-offs of the ninth-ranked club.

Play-off 1: Aviva Premiership (Saints or Glaws) v Guinness PRO12 (ninth rranked club - which is Edinburgh)

Play-off 2: TOP 14 (seventh-ranked club which is Stade Francais v Guinness PRO12 (eighth-ranked club which is Connacht)

The Premiership and TOP 14 clubs will have home advantage
