The positives are starting to mount up as Gloucester's preparations for the new season gather momentum, and those who witnessed their 20-8 friendly win over Cardiff Blues at Kingsholm must have gone hoime feeling a lot more confident than they did at the end of last season.

Nigel Davies appears to have turned things round since taking the coaching reins, though he of course will prefer to place the credit for the promise currently being shown on the shoulders of the players.

There’s no doubt the pack produced a dominant performance against the Blues, and stand-in stand-off Billy Twelvetrees capitalised on the pack’s performance.

He scored all ten first-half points with a try, a conversion and a pen. He scored another pen after the break and after the Blues cut the lead with a try and penalty of their own, Glaws finished the game with a clinching penalty try, converted by you-know-who.

The prospect of him playing inside centre with Freddie Burns at fly-half is a mouth-watering one for cherry and whites fans.

The game was a testimonial for Alex Brown and Nick Wood, but far more important than that is the fact that Glaws produced a good team performance against a good team.

With another home friendly against Doncaster next weekend, things are on the up for Glaws, but it’s worth remembering that when the real thing kicks-off on September 1, Northampton won’t be coming to Kingsway to roll over.

36 is a very good player, I hope he gets more game time to prove he could push for the EPS squad. There is no doubt of his ability.
