Tinds - on the way?

Gloucester fans will hopefully be forgiven for getting more excited about the signing of one big man from Wales than they are about another. The homecoming from Scarlets of local lad Ben Morgan will hopefully leave a longer-lasting  legacy than the show Tom Jones will be putting on at Kingsholm in mid-summer.

Jones the voice will no doubt attract a sell-out 12,000 crowd on June 22, but judging by his performance for England in last weekend’s win in Paris, Morgan will be just as popular with the cherry and white faithful.

It has taken weeks for Glaws to clinch the deal, but his power and potential will go a long way towards compensating for what looks certain to be the departure of Mike Tindall.

The veteran former England captain has been offered a one-year deal which would mean a drop in wages, but like so many others he has been tempted by the big money on offer in France and is expected to sign for Stade Francais.

But professional rugby is a ruthless game off the pitch as well as on it, and coach Bryan Redpath wasn’t prepared to offer a long deal to a 33-year-old. Sentiment has no part to play in squad building.

The arrival of Billy Twelvetrees to add to the midfield strength already at Kingsholm should help.

Meanwhile, without a game for the second weekend running, Glaws should be well prepared when they face Exeter at Kingsholm on Saturday March 24 – it’s vital they recover from that 36-3 mauling at Leicester at the beginning of March.
