Gloucester have every right to make the short journey to Bath this weekend in a confident frame of mind after their home win over Northampton, but coach Bryan Redpath will be concentrating on making sure the players don't get over-confident after the narrow win over the Saints.

It took a late penalty to earn the victory as Freddie Burns completed his match haul of 17 points in the 27-24 win, but Northampton staged a second half fightback which could just as easily have earned them a result.

Bath struggled at times in last weekend’s home win over bottom side Newcastle Falcons and they will be wanting to improve. The same applies to Redpath.

He says: "On the whole, I am disappointed (by the performance against Saints) but still relieved to get the win and we march on to Bath next week.

"We were a bit sloppy, we created opportunities for them and gave them point after point and you can't do that, it's something that we need to move on from.”

Games between these two old rivals are, of course, always somewhat different and even with the teams sitting in the wrong half of the table four points apart, there is just as much at stake as there always has been.

Looking at the table, Gloucester’s top four ambition is still well within reach – they are, after all, only three points behind fourth-top Leicester and four behind third-top Northampton.

But Redpath feels they need a  big improvement to close those gaps.

Winning at Bath to chalk up a derby double would only be the start.
