Gloucester showed the fans- and perhaps themselves - what they can do with a stunning 34-24 Heineken Cup win over French giants Toulouse at Kingsholm ... what a pity it came too late to make a difference to their fate in the competition. 

They still go out after finishing third, just two points behind Harlquins and three behind Toulouse. But they go out in style.

Jonny May scored two tries, Akapusi Qera and Charlie Sharples adding the others, with Freddie Burns kicking 14 points in a rousing team performance against the four-times winners of the competition.

With nothing at stake but their pride, Glaws responded with a positive performance than stunned the visitors.

"It was a great performance,” coach Bryan Redpath (right) told the BBC.

"We knew they had picked a big, physical side and we showed them a lot of respect. I thought numbers one to 23 - our substitutes that came on made a big difference as well - were great.

"I am delighted for the boys because we finished off the Heineken Cup in style.

 “Kingsholm has always been a tough place to play, and the fans got behind us. The manner of the game and the last 25 minutes were outstanding. The young players who came on kept up the tempo when we knew we had to make changes.

“It was a strong squad effort and that’s what the game is all about. Gloucester people want to see a performance of ambition, physicality and hard work and we did it all very well.

“We’ve now got nine cup finals left in the Premiership, and if we play like that we’ll be all right.”

But first it’s the LV=Cup for two weeks – at home to Cardiff Blues and away to London Irish.

Having put down this marker, Glaws have a lot to live up to.
