Gloucester are out of the Heineken Cup, but they can have a major say in which team progresses from their pool, and coach Bryan Redpath will settle for nothing less than a 100 per cent effort to do just that in their final game next weekend.

Losing 20-14 at Harlequins mean Glaws will finish third, but their last game is at home to Toulouse, who are just two points ahead of a Quins side which should win easily against Connacht.

Redpath was pleased with his team’s fighting show against Quins, who needed a late try to clinch a comeback victory in a tense game.

"The boys' effort was outstanding,” he told the BBC.” That's the benchmark we should set whether we're playing home or away. I can't fault the players.

"We can't let our standards slip. Potentially there's only 12 matches remaining this season and we've got to be in every single one with that mindset."

"We've got to finish this Heineken Cup campaign with our heads up and look for a win against Toulouse at the weekend."

A converted try by James Simpson-Daniel helped give Glaws a single-point lead at half-time, the score 11-10.

Quins regained the lead with a pen, but Freddie Burns kicked Glaws ahead again before Mike Brown’s try added to Matt Hopper’s opener to clinch victory.

Playing well and losing is all very well, but hopefully Redpath will not accept that for too long. Results count more than anything else and losing, no matter how bravely, is a habit Glaws fans won’t accept.
