BR - relishing game

With a full squad training this week and available for the weekend, injuries apart, it's back to something like normal for Bryan Redpath and Gloucester as they try to transform a see-saw start to the season into something approaching consistency.

But if he thinks he has had a difficult start because of World Cup absences, Friday night’s opponents Leicester have had a nightmare.

Rugby’s equivalent of Manchester United have won only one of their opening half-dozen Premiership games and were thumped 31-3 in their opening LV= game at Scarlets last weekend.

So there will be a black cloud hovering over Welford Road as Glaws visit for the second and last LV= game before a return to the Premiership for two more matches.

Tigers v Glaws has always been one of the glamour fixtures in modern professional rugby, but it’s hardly a battle of the giants this time round as both sides battle to find the form they need to establish themselves as serious challengers for honours this season.

On current form, Glaws are by far the better side, but it would be foolish  not to take the Leicester threat as seriously as it is always taken.

Redpath told the Citizen: “It's always tough at Leicester and we'll have to be sharper across the whole of the contest to have a chance.

"It's likely they'll go at this at something near full-strength because of their start to the season and the need to build momentum with their World Cup guys coming back in.

"It could be a real full-tilt contest for us, and that's something we're relishing.

 "We can really ramp up training now we've got everyone back. We gave them a couple of days off at the start of last week, because that's the last break they will have, probably until the Six Nations.

"Between now and Wasps on Boxing Day that's ten games, and we're going to have a real battle on our hands, with Premiership, Heineken, LV=Cup, and we've just got to get our minds around it and make sure we focus on it.

"The last six weeks has been tight in terms of personnel, so it's nice to get everyone back.

"We've been scratching the bottom of the pit for a while, but I've got to take my hat off to the lads who have dealt with that. They've really dug in, and a few of them have never been in that situation before."

It’s almost like the start of the season all over again ... hopefully a good start for Glaws.
