Gloucester have given Bryan Redpath the response he needed after the humiliation at Harlquins, beating old rivals Bath in a comeback performance that left the coach delighted.

Wins over Bath are always special, and this was certainly one of them. Yet it all started so badly as Bath took a 6-0 lead and looked like posting their first win at Kingsholm in five years.

But Tim Taylor narrowed the gap with a pen, and Darren Dawidiuk went over for a vital try that Taylor converted for a 10-6 half-time lead.

Taylor kicked another three-pointer before Charlie Sharples made absolutely sure by scoring a try fit to win any game as he ran the length of the pitch after a Bath knock-on near the home line, kicked ahead and won the race to touch down.

Glaws were down to ten men at the time after Lesley Vainikolo was binned for a high tackle, but Freddie Burns converted for a memorable 23-6 victory.

Redpath told the BBC: "I thought our pack were outstanding. There were some great performances across the board and that set a platform.

"Today we played as a team, defended as a team and got our rewards as a team. "We grew in confidence after defending for long periods. Ideally you don't want to get into a situation like that, but after last week's performance it was really important that we dig in today and showed lots of character and passion."

They certainly did – overpowered at the Stoop, the pack dominated Bath with a great turnaround that had people wondering how they could produce two such contrasting performances.

A coach with the answer to that is sitting on a good career, but it’s the sort of inconsistency that drives coaches and fans nuts.

Next up is another home game, London Irish next Saturday lunchtime – play like this and win that one, and the Harlequins nightmare will hopefully be consigned to history.

That's more like it as Glaws recover their poise
