Seven tries in a great West Country derby, a packed Kingsholm and a Gloucester win that strengthens the grip on a place in the Premiership play-off zone – what a huge shame that a great day was marred by a sickening injury to Bath’s former Glaws play-maker Olly Barkley. Rivalry is one thing, but no rational rugby fan wants to see the scenes that appeared to end OB’s season prematurely.

It’s been reported that some Shed-dwellers were queuing to bag their favourite spot on the terrace an incredible three and a half hours before the kick-off.
I wasn’t there to see that level of dedication, but how good it is to hear that Gloucester’s recent surge in form has created such a reaction. They got their reward with a 34-22 win.
Barkley’s injury came in the second half and the sight of Barkley going off clearly in pain and distressed was not a good one. he and Glaws have a history, but we would hope that all cherry and whites will wish him a speedy and full recovery.
Glaws coach Bryan Redpath was, like the fans, delighted with the result and again praised the team’s work ethic as he told the BBC: “You know there are big games in the season and they don't get bigger than the Bath derby at a packed Kingsholm.
"We let in a couple soft tries and we missed some opportunities that could have put a bigger shine on the day but on the whole you can't take anything away from the boys, they were outstanding.
"Tom Voyce has been sat in the background for a while with other wingers playing well, but he's been working very hard and is a great role model - I'm delighted for him today."
Henry Trinder and Paul Doran-Jones scored first-half tries for Glaws for a 15-10 half-time lead, and though Tom Biggs levelled the scores, the alarm bells didn’t ring for long as Nicky Robinson kicked two penaties and Voyce scored his two tries, one easy one very well-taken, either side of Barkley’s cruel injury.
With Doran-Jones scoring one of the tries and Robinson kicking 14 points, Redpath will be pleased with the way even players who are on the way out at Kingsholm are performing.
He said that many of the players must be tried after a hectic couple of months, but there’s no let-up just yet as Glaws are at home again next weekend, Newport Gwent Dragons visiting Kingsholm for the LV= Cup semi-final.

That was a shocking injury. Recovering from a second leg break in the same area won't be easy but I'm sure Barkley will have the drive and determination to do it.

I don't think I've ever felt so sorry for a player before. He must be really sick.
