Some rugby followers want to be entertained, some are more concerned about the result, and there are just as many who want both. Gloucester fans got none of the above as the cherry and whites stumbled and fumbled their way to their latest defeat at Newcastle’s muddy Kingston Park.

They appeared to lack ideas, drive and passion as the Falcons won 12-6, Jimmy Gopperth’s four penalties outscoring two in reply from Freddie Burns.
It was one of those drab, miserable days that bring on attacks of seasonal affective disorder, and the match was as bad as the weather.
Falcons are not having a good season, but they were still good enough top send Glaws packing.
Nobody could put up a reasonable argument against the result, and coach Bryan Redpath told the BBC:  "I think three dull penalties in the first half was the difference. We didn't kick the points at that time and potentially we should have.
"Credit to Newcastle, but there wasn't a lot of rugby in the conditions.”
When talking to the Citizen he added: "It's not the end of the world. It's disappointing and our basics were just not good enough.
"We didn't look after possession well enough, and they dealt with the conditions better than us.
"But that's life, we've had a good month and sometimes things like that just happen.”
Indeed they do, especially if you get the basics wrong, don’t look after possession and fail to deal with the conditions.
Apart from all that, it was wonderful. It's always easy to be wise after the event and criticism can be cheap after such a disappointment.
But really, this was just not good enough.
Redpath added: "The challenge now is to get out there and atone for this in the coming two weeks.
"We've got two massive games in Saracens at home and then Sale away now, and the lads have got to get out there and put yesterday right."
Away to Newcastle was also a massive game, and Glaws lost for the simple reason that they didn’t play well enough. On this evidence they are not good enough to realise Redpath’s dream of a play-off place this season.
In the conditions, flowing rugby was difficult. But the fact is that Glaws lost, and deserved to lose, to the second worst team in the Premiership.
Enough said.
