Redpath admits it - Glaws not good enough

The international flavour of modern club rugby was on show as a Zimbabwean winger who represents the USA and plays for a French club demonstrated to Gloucester and their fans that that there’s just no substitute for raw pace in the backs and raw power up front as Biarritz earned a bonus-point win over Bryan Redpath’s team in the Heineken Cup.
The French team’s 42-15 victory also underlines how much Redpath an d his players need to do for Glaws to once again become a threat to the other teams chasing trophies both on the domestic and international front.
A long way.
Takudzwa Ngwenya scored three ties and Dimitri Rachvili kicked 17 points as Biarritz put Glaws to the sword.
Redpath told the BBC after the game: "Ultimately we shot ourselves in the foot by making so many basic errors.
"Three of their tries came from two missed tackles and one dropped pass. You just can't compete against a team of the calibre of Biarritz when you give away soft tries like that.
"We were suitably punished and we have to accept that we weren't good enough."
Those last three words just about sum it up – Glaws were NOT good enough. Their 15 points through tries by Tom Voyce and replacement Jake Boer, who only signed for Glaws on Friday, and a conversion and penalty from Nicky Robinson never threatened to affect the result, even tough they were the first tries Biarritz have conceded for six weeks.
The way this game went clearly demonstrates that unless there is a miracle recovery later in the season, Glaws are going to have to be satisfied with the role of also-rans this season.
As Redpath says, they were not good enough in this game, and they are not good enough to be much more than support players in any competition this season.
In the circumstances, they are going to have to put the season down as a learning experience and get as much out of it as they possibly can.

Currently there are too many stupid errors being made on the pitch, total inability at re-starts and giving stupid penalties away straight after scoring being just two and Glaws' lack of depth in the squad is being highlighted off it with some players frankly not up to the standard you would expect for a side who should be challenging on all fronts.
Whilst Redpath must be wondering just what he has got himself into, the silence from Glaws' co-owners is deafening. Walkinshaw needs to step forward, admit the last close season was a mess, mostly of his doing and give Redpath his backing to get it right for next season.
