England Squad Reaction

So the England squad has been named for the friendly against Wales and qualifyer against Latvia. Here's what we make of the selections.

 

First of all the full squad:

 

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Jordan Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Manchester City)

Defenders: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), Reece James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Aston Villa), Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen), Djed Spence (Tottenham Hotspur), John Stones (Manchester City)

Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (AC Milan), Declan Rice (Arsenal), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Forwards: Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Eberechi Eze (Arsenal), Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, loan from Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

 
 
Now given the players that have not been selected, on one hand I look at that the squad and think are we really as good as we think? Do we really have the strength in depth that we think? Could this squad win a world cup? I feel like the answer would be no on all counts.
 
 
However, I do like the fact that Tuchel hasn't just brought the big names straight back in and he has really made a statement that you have to earn your place in this team no matter how big your name is, unless you're Jordan Henderson that is.
 
 
Whilst I like what Tuchel has done to a degree, there aren't many games between now and the world cup so should he just be picking who he feels gives us the best chance of winning the world cup no matter how well this squad performed in the last camp? Perhaps he thinks that this squad is our best chance of winning the world cup?
 
 
Southgate would have never done this, nor would anyone who went before him. It is brave and it could bring more squad unity or have the opposite effect. It is however Tuchels' decision to make as it is his job on the line and surely any manager would only do what they feel is in the best interests of the team. 
 
 
That being said, I have been far from impressed thus far with the performances, selections and results overall since Tuchel took charge. But perhaps that last game against Serbia is a sign of things to come and the dross that was served up before that was building to that point.
 
 
The two fixtures duing this camp should prove no problems for England so are we actually going to learn if this group of players can take us to the next level? I guess only time will tell.
