Well I've taken a look at the 'Young Guns' and Steeno in Part 1 so how are the rest doing? Well given the league position the squad are doing fine. Many pundits and Chiefs supporters were concerned when it was announced that Dean Mumm wouldn't be available for this block of games. This added to what looked to many like 'light' recruitment left a lot of questions to be answered. But as The Tribe like to remind us (mainly after a defeat) we 'always look on the bright side of life' and I guess this must go for the players as well. It seems quite amazing to be able to say that Captain Fantastic's leadership mantle was worn with pride and performance to match by Jack Yeandle. The captaincy seems to have sharpened his game and he IMO is unlucky not to have been called into the England squad and I for one will be mighty disappointed if he doesn't make the Saxons squad (at least). I don't know what his stats say but his thrown in accuracy must be amongst the best in the Prem. He scrummages well and is dynamic in the loose.
Having said this he has been ably assisted by the other forwards and although it's difficult to separate their performances two players exemplify Rob Baxters approach to recruitment. These are the two Toms, Thomas The Tank Waldrom and Tomas Francis. In terms of experience there's a huge gulf but both have been an important part of the early success. It's Tomas Francis' first Prem season but watching him play you'd never know it and at 6' 1" and 21 stone he makes an imposing Prop to face. Thomas Waldrom will be well known to many from his time with Tigers but he seems to have found a new lease of life with the Chiefs. Maybe it's the cream teas, but whatever the reason he's playing some great rugby and bring the best out of youngsters like Dave Ewers. This has been recognised by Stewart Lancaster with both being called up as cover for the AIs.
