Exeter Chiefs lay the ghost of past horror shows at the Mem. A stirring display from the Chiefs and the Away Tribe see Exeter beat Bristol in a hugely entertaining match.
Match Review
Bristol Rugby 26 Exeter Chiefs 35
As usual I'll leave the detailed reporting of play to the offy site, newspapers etc. and concentrate on my view of the game from an Exe perspective.
The Chiefs played with Practiced Precision, Patience, Persistence, Power, Pleasure and Pride to overcome this season's 13th Premiership side, Bristol.
Practiced precision - Steeno's goal kicking, lines run by the backs and a return to security in the lineout.
Patience - going through the phases, breaking down the defence and being ready to take advantage when it's there.
Persistence - a never say die attitude, plugging away to find the gaps.
Power - from both forwards and backs. Forwards in the loose and around the pitch. Backs in running hard and fast, cutting through to score.
Pleasure - enjoying the challenge and the hard earned rewards.
Pride - being proud to be part of the Exeter Chiefs family and taking pride in their own play and that of their team mates.
The last two visits to the Mem. have been memorable for the wrong reason, with Exe taking a pasting from Bristol. I guess many of The Tribe who travelled to see Sunday's encounter were secretly fearing a similar outcome. It's a measure of how far the Chiefs have come that the first few minutes banished any such fears. OK, there's still room for improvement but this was another forward step that showed how well the coaching staff and players are setting about winning the Championship.
The Tribe can take pride in the support provided for the team. Whilst vastly outnumbered by the home support The Tribe were vocal until long after the final whistle. It's great to see the side acknowledge the support afterwards.
The Bristol fans can also take pride in the support they give their side and the welcome they gave The Tribe.
So, for once I managed to go home and get the away win I was looking for!!!
Bring on the Exiles......
