A look at the Chiefs squad for 2009/10 as it stands. Still a few to be added but this years 36'ish will get more game time than some of last years 50'ish managed.
Exeter Chiefs 2009/10 Squad
With just a month to go until pre-season training starts here is the list of players who are likely to make up the squad. I've taken the names from those still shown on the 'Offy Site' plus the seven new signings announced to date. I'll update the list as and when there are changes.

thats 37 players heavy on the forwards ( 22 v 15) particularly light on the wing.
Heres hoping for a quick apointment of the backs coach and hopefully he can bring some players, though looks like a couple to be trimmed from the forwards if aiming for 36 ish ( Cracknell and/or Bentley if the sevens thread is accurate)
GJ the list will certainly change with time but for now I've based it on the Offy Site player list, which has been updated by removing those who have already been announced as leaving/left. There are sure to be changes as the squad figure given at the Members Forum was 36'ish, with about 30 of the existing squad.
Wardy told me that his injury will keep him out for quite some time and that he was seriously looking at his options as to whether and where he will play in the future.
I thought it was explained at the members meeting about the squad situation, because they are reducing the size they were always going to have to release some people to make way for the new arrivals. I know the squad looks forward heavy at the moment but our player recruitment has not finished so I guess we will have to wait and see the announcements from the club in the next few weeks. At the minute we might only have two natural wingers but Paul Mac did a great job last season and also Tom Bedford can play there if required. Our league whatever format it is has always been forward based so we will need plenty for the hard work. It seems to me although certain things had to be done to reduce the squad size I will reserve judgement until the recruiting is finished.
If Freeman is off then I would definitely like to see another quality second row coming in. There are some in the back row who can double up but it just seems a bit sparse.
Other positions I think we need to bring guys into would be full back, wing and a quality inside centre. Maybe another fly half as well but that is just being picky. We have an abundance of quality outside centres but in my opinion need a 12 that can really spark them off a bit more.
