Since the move to Sandy Park there has been an upsurge in attendances. I'm reliably informed that late comer's to the Chiefs v Albion derby were unable to get in as the ground capacity, currently 5800 had been reached. There were over 1000 at a Monday evening 2nd's game v Bristol. The upsurge in numbers has been at a time when the Chiefs have started the season in a patchy way. I'm not sure how the club would cope if we were top of the table, but it would be great to find out.
There have been a few niggles about beer and food prices but it's a lot more comfortable in the new ground. The 7 bars, yes 7!, have been busy even with the HIGH street prices.
The covered terrace has a great feel and once the tannoy gets sorted out we'll be able to hear who's playing, who scored etc. There was some concern that the new ground might lack atmosphere but the stand buzzes and can generate a great sound. Strangely this seems to be louder when the Chiefs are attacking?
On the playing side the new coaching team have a mixture of seasoned campaigners and a lot of young talent to select from. However the injury list has maybe given a few of the young guns an opportunity to show what they can do sooner than expected.
This is a club with ambition and in Pete Drewett it has a coach who's used to working with young players at the highest level.
Provided the Ring of Fences doesn't decend we're aiming high and have a good chance of getting there.
