Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts has revealed his aims to get The Gills back into the Championship next season. The Gills star has been in fine form of late, netting four in the previous six games.
Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts has revealed his aspirations to get Gillingham back into the Championship next season. The Welsh international has been one of the star players so far this season scoring an impressive nine goals.

Crofts netted The Gills' only goal on the weekend, scoring a close range header. Speaking to the Kent Messenger, Crofts said: " I've scored four in the last six game now. It was a good ball in from Craig Stone, I got up well and I managed to put it away again.

" In the first half we played some really good football, but in the second half they came at us a bit more.

" Overall though, we did well and we deserved the point. I'm really enjoying my football at the moment. We've just got one game left now and we're already looking forward to next season.

" We've got a good return of goals from midfield and we create a lot of chances as well." Indeed the goals return from midfield has been very good, the strikeforce isn't really prolific enough. Just the one striker is in the top three goalscorers for Gillingham, Gary Mulligan, and the two summer signings of Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu and Dean McDonald haven't lived up to pre-season expectation who have scored just five goals and six goals respectively.

" If we can keep doing that next season then we're sure to be up there and we'll be looking to build on this run we're on now.

" We'll want to start the season well and hopefully we'll make the play-offs and we could even go up automatically."

So it appears Crofts has echoed Gillingham chairman Paul Scally's rather ambitious aspirations of promotion, and with a better budget on the table for next season, Scally claims, it could well happen. But The Gills have conceeded 75 goals this season, a figure that doesn't represent a team gunning for promotion. Also, with just three wins on the road so far this season, that is something else that the Gillingham management will have to address should they want to mount a serious promotion bid.
