Gillingham team captain Mike Flynn scored an impressive 30 yard goal to secure a vital three points at Priestfield for The Gills. Gillingham goalkeeper Romain Larrieu pulled off a number of fine saves to ensure that the three points would go to the home side. It wasn't until ten minutes had past that the Gills created a real opportunity to open the scoring. Mark Bentley picked out Nicky Southall who passed to Gills striker Gary Mulligan and his 12 yard effort was well saved by Alex 'keeper Ben Williams.

With 23 minutes gone, Crewe created their first real opportunity when Crewe's Micheal Higdon shot from 6 yards out only to seee his effort go well high into the top of the Rainham End.

Romain Larrieu then pulled off a fine save to deny Neil Cox's 20 yard effort low to his right. From the resulting corner Larrieu pulled off another fine save this time to deny Micheal Higdon.

Gary Mulligan then tested Williams again with a good strike on the edge of the box only to see Williams tip it wide.

With the interval fast approaching, Larrieu saved to deny Rodney Jack to ensure that the sides went in level at the break.

Chances were sparse in the second half but 25 minutes into the second half, The Gills scored what would eventually be the winner. Gillingham team captain Mike Flynn hadn't scored at Priestfield this season before his 30 yard strike curled into the top left corner of the Crewe goal.

Larrieu came to Gillingham's rescue once again late on to deny Shaun Miller's deflected effort, tipping it over the crossbar.

The game finished and was warmly welcomed from Gillingham fans, which should see The Gills safe for another season in League One.
