Gills aim to end losing streak

Gillingham travel to Cheltenham tomorrow, hoping to end a run of three consecutive defeats. The Gills are also aiming for their first win of 2007. Scally last week said how he was aiming to sign two new players before travelling to Whaddon Road, however Gills are still yet to sign or sell a player.

Gillingham manager has retained the services of on loan ‘keeper Dean Brill, who extended his spell at Priestfield this week as Kelvin Jack has failed to return from injury. It was also hoped that Gillingham could complete the signing of Neil Shipperley in time for Saturday, but as of yet (Friday), there are no new arrivals.

 

Danny Spiller is expected to be left out of the squad after it being reported that Jepson and Spiller have fallen out – Jepson’s post match comments on Spiller making the rumour seem all the more likely.

Steven Gillespie shall miss the visit of Gillingham on Saturday, following his sending off against Scunthorpe in mid-week. Gillespie scored Cheltenham’s only goal in that game.

 

Damien Spencer and former Gill Craig Armstrong due to their suspensions.

 

Jamie Victory and Mickey Bell are also doubtful for the clash.

 

Kayode Odejayi, cousin of former Gillingham favourite Ade Akinbiyi, is also expected to return to the Cheltenham side.

Kayaode Odejayi

Nigerian born Odejayi currently hsa ten goals to his name so far this season. Odejayi cost the Robins just £5,000 after three years at Ashton Gate with Bristol City. He started his career in Kent, with Kent League outfit Greenwich Borough, befire being recommended to Britsol City by his cousin and former Gillingham striker, Ade Akinbiyi. Odejayi was top goalscorer for Cheltenham last season however the twenty-four year old's form has been anything but consistent.

"It will be a very good test. I went down there the other night with my assistant, Mick Docherty, to watch them against Scunthorpe. They should have got the three points there and they had a man sent off, which was debatable. They had plenty of chances to win the game and then Scunny popped up with fifteen minutes to go to get an equaliser. Cheltenham made a good account of themselves and anybody can do that in this league.?"Anybody can beat anybody in this league, which we all know. Tranmere have got a great home record but we went up there and won 3-2, which nobody expected. We went to Doncaster and won up there with ten men. Cheltenham could have quite easily won the other night with ten men against Scunthorpe as they had a fantastic chance to make it 2-0 just after the sending-off. If you did the fixed-odds betting in this league, you'd struggle. It will be a tough game but we know all about them, we go there well prepared, and hopefully the boys can put a performance on and we can get something out of the game."

"The team played very well against Scunthorpe on Tuesday night and I saw the second team play very well against Hereford on Wednesday. At the moment I'm looking at one or two positions where I have to make changes because I will have no Armstrong and no Gillespie but I don't see those being major decisions for me.

"Football is and life in general is about what you think and how you think. Our players believe we can get out of the bottom four and they are positive about it because that's the way I am.”
