Gillingham have drawn Nottingham Forest in the first round of the Johnstone Paint Trophy. Forest somehow made their way into the South Eastern section of the cup, as did Boston and Notts County. But Gillingham will have the hardest test of all in the first round.
But the Gills do face the club who currently top League One at home, which should give them a chance following the big name clubs who have come to Priestfield in search of progression to the next round crashing out. Amongst those Portsmouth in the Carling Cup last season and Charlton at home two years ago.

Forest shall now have to travel to Kent twice in one week after the Gills meet them in League One. The game shall be played on October Monday 16th October, two days after meeting them at Priestfield on the Saturday.

The last time the two sides met in a cup competition finished in a four one victory to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in 1961.

The other big draw in the first round was Swindow facing Wycombe, the two top sides in League Two.
