England’s captain Michael Vaughan has had an operation today (Monday) on his knee. There have been many stories and rumours on whether Vaughan will play for England again and that all depends on how the surgery goes. Michael Vaughan has been in surgery today, his fourth operation on his knee, which could now determine when or if he will be back playing for England. Will he be back in time for The Ashes next winter? Will he be back at all?


Vaughan had an earlier operation last December after breaking down against Pakistan A in a practice match which then meant he couldn’t take part when England toured India shortly after that.

Peter Gregory, the England and Wales chief medical officer said "He will have our full support, and we will be closely monitoring his progress in conjunction with the staff at Yorkshire who will supervise his day-to-day rehabilitation programme."

"Our priority now is to safeguard Michael's long-term interests and ensure that he can resume his playing career. "

Andrew Strauss will now take Vaughan’s role as captain on against Pakistan on July 13th however this is yet to be confirmed.
