If the Great Escape was on track a week ago, Saturday against the Yorkies was the day that the Goons found "Tom". Complacency, bad tummies, iffy reffing, blue moon or whatever, the only good thing is that we're still within touching distance of Moseley who just scraped a point at Nottingham. After a couple of days in the cooler, let's hope that after eight days off overall, the boys can line us up for a "home run" when they head down to Penzance for the away derby fixture with the Pirates on Sunday (KO - 15.00).
We're all too familiar with the shortcomings and serial misfiring of our own team, but it's far from sweetness and light for our neighbours over the Tamar. They are the archetypal "hot and cold" team at our level this year. The high point is turning over Bristol at home in early Feb, but the Mennaye has not been the fortress it once was; Yorks, Scottish, Bedford (B&I), Nottingham, Doncaster (twice!) and Rotherham have all recorded wins there this term. They have taken real beatings up at Worcester and Bristol, too.
It was a close run thing when they came to Brickfields at Christmas, so we must take heart from what was the start of our run of form this year. We must also hope that Rotherham (who are on the cusp of the play-offs) do not slip up when they travel down to Brum...
