On a very cold and windy day, Devon and Kent lined up for what would be a brilliant U20’s match.
Within a minute Devon kicked a penalty, 4 minutes later Kent scored a try, then another Devon penalty kick then a Devon Try. 15 minutes into the game saw the score 13 to 5. On the 21st Minute there was an excellent Tom Daley dive off side from Kent, but Devon failed to kick the penalty between the posts, but within a minute there was an error in the Kent defence and Devon scored a Try, then 5 minutes later Kent scored bringing the totals to 20 to 10. The 34th Minute saw a shoulder charge by one of the kent players, which knocked all the bells out of Devon No. 6 – ref judged that hands had been used. The 40th minute another penalty for Devon saw the half time score at Devon 23, Kent 10
Half time changes:
Kent Off No. 3 R Conlon (Westcombe Park), On No. 22 D Pender (Gravesend)
Devon Off No. 4 M Reynolds (Exmouth), On No. 20 C Coutier (Sidmouth)
Off No. 6 T Burt (Devonport Services), On No. 19 H Coles (Ivybridge)
The second half saw the weather get colder and the wind get stronger. 44th Minute saw Kent run in a try (coverted) and then 5 minutes later another Kent try (converted), scores close at 23 to 24. The 52nd minute saw Devon 21 G Varano (Bicton College) come on to replace no 3 A Gale (Newton Abbot). 6 minutes later nire Devon replacements no 14 J Tolan (Ivybridge) was replaced by No. 18 J Anderton (Ivybridge)
The 61st minute saw total carnage on the field, bodies everywhere, heavy tackles, cramps and a small Kent handbag was shown to a Devon player, but luckily the Devon player just gave the look that said ‘is that it’ and play resumed. 66th minute saw a devon penalty kicked over, 71st Minute Kent came back with a penalty kick that bounced off the post. Kent 18 J Reason (Blackheath) came on for no 1 A Wake-Amith (Canterbury), then after a few seconds Kent 18 realised that the shorts he had were about 3 sizes too small, so one of the othe kent players proceed in removing his shorts, showing some nice red & black snuggly undies, good Man to do this as it was freezing out there. About a minute after this ‘brief exposure’ kent ran in a try (converted) taking the score to 26 to 31. Devon 18 J Anderton (Ivybridge) came off with a bad shoulder injury , replaced by - well this is where the replacement didn’t have a shirt so he wore No. 3 – so could have been one of the last 3 replacements J Morgan (Ivybridge), A Pike (Tiverton) or A Sendarayi (Sidmouth). Kent also took off No. 7 J Liston (Canterbury) to be replaced by16 O White (Blackheath). In the dying seconds of the game Kent were awarded a penalty in their half, about a foot away from the half way line - the kick was brilliant – soared between the posts Brining the full time score to Devon 26 Kent 34
