Plymouth Albion announce formally their new Director of Rugby today at Brickfields.Pete brings plenty of coaching experience and contacts to the pot and has a contract from Albion until 2015.

Under new management.

After Graham Dawe had his contract terminated earlier this week England Student and ex Exeter Chief's Coach Pete Drewett has been appointed with a contract to run until 2015.

With short, medium and long term plans the board appointed Pete after a run of poor results on the pitch. Chair, Dr Graham Stirling gave thanks for all Graham Dawe has done in his term of office. He said that the crunch point was at the Ayr, British and Irish Cup match when Albion saw the 1st half lead of 17 points to love turn around to a loss of 17 -18.

Dawe had been given targets for the club being in the top 8 if not 6 and the current 10th place was not consistent with this.

The story broke by the BBC on Monday, and on this site by 1pm although some of the team were aware that this may be on the cards on Sunday.

Dr Stirling says that there will be some changes to strengthen the board and that there has been promises of more money for the club. Once Pete has settled in the Board will look at requests for additions to the club set-up.

Graham Stirling says that Pete is a long term solution to coaching at Brickfields and he comes with a large black book of contacts. Pete, who until today, has been in an RFU role coaching students has tendered his resignation from that role so that he can spend all his time pushing Albion upwards and onwards.

Pete has already been on the phone to Exeter Chiefs letting them know of the change in management at Plymouth and will continue to talk with the hope that the relationship of dual registered players may continue and improve. Before he can make any changes he needs to sit down with the current coaching set-up to review the structure and the team.

Whilst he does not live too far away in Sidmouth Pete expects to find somewhere closer to Brickfields to stay for 2 or 3 nights a week so that he can attend early morning training sessions.

Supporters of the team up the A38 have made positive comment about his organisational and coaching skills but as a scrum-half himself he will be left with a possible hole in the forward coaching role. This is under review to see if it can be handled from inside the current staff.

I found Pete to be very approachable and easy to talk to, my personal view is that he is a great and refreshing addition to the club. Lets get behind him as supporters and not expect too much too soon but it would be nice to record a win against London Welsh on Saturday.

Why not come along ready to book your seat on the coach as he makes his first trip away from home next weekend.

Pete is ready, the players are ready, now lets make sure we get as many as possible to turn up at the match on Saturday and help them record a win!

It's kind of ironic that the 'crunch point' would prove to be a B&I cup fixture that nobody likes and of absolutely no relevance to Albion's survival in the Championship.

Pete needs first to look at what we have before looking at any changes, if they are needed.

He had only been in post for a day!

I truly hope that Nat stays, he has been swimming against the tide for years at the club in terms of what he is trying to achieve on the pitch, that being a more open and entertaining game and a winning one at that.

He has been let down badly over the years so I hope that he and Pete can work well together, time will tell.

He is another person who has been faithfull and put Albion before many other things, he doesn't need the club having his own sucessful business back home, but each time he has returned to Albion each season on a promise only to be let down practically every game.

He gets my vote every time, I hope it works out for you both Nat.

i know that but some coaches tend to like working with people they know and worked with before rather than stick with what is here. I was just interested if Peter was going to bring in one or two for example Paul Larkin his former backs coach at Exeter? not that i feel Paul will come here due to only just joining Bedford Blues but you see the point i am making i hope.
