'Overtaking manoeuvres in F1 are simply great'

Christian Klien, test and reserve driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team, proved his mettle as a real racer during his 46 Grands Prix starts. He is still fascinated by the fights for position in Formula One, and is extremely pleased that the rule changes have brought with them more duels. "Overtaking manoeuvres in F1 are simply great," says the Austrian. "It is all about you: no technology, no strategy and no assistance from the pits can help you out. One learns the basics in karting."

The narrower rear wings mean less turbulent air is created by the current Formula One cars than was the case in the past. "Therefore one is able to follow closer without losing downforce," explains the 26-year-old. "The banned fins and flaps mean that sight through the rear-view mirrors is much improved. A small detail, yes, but extremely important in a duel."
