After 6 league games into the season there have been some rumblings among fans as to whether David Moyes is the right man for the job. They feel that he has had his time and the club has not progressed in a manner that we should have as we appear to be in another relegation battle.

Minority Living in Past
Why do this minority of Evertonians feel this? Is it because Moyes has struggled throughout his time at Everton? Is it because he has signed poor players who are past their best? Or is it because they are still living in the past and believe we have a divine right to be winning trophies every season? I dont believe so. The reason why a small group of Evertonians feel Moyes should go is quite simply because of David Moyes himself. David Moyes last year produced a miracle and has raised the excpectation levels of our fans. Nobody a year ago believed that finishing 4th was possible but after it happened, many believed it should be happening every season.

If those fans looked back to the dark days of the 1990's when season after season was a nail biting struggle, they would soon remember how bad it was. The days when Walter Smith was in charge when he signed old injured players who were seemingly past their best. The days when we went for a 0-0 draw at home and hoped that we could nick a goal. During this period there was no hope for Everton, the best we could hope for was another season in the premiership.

Moyes the Difference
Then David Moyes arrived and instantly from his opening speech as manager it was different. He was different. You listened to him and you believed he was the man for Everton. He understood us and he was going to take us back to where we belonged. 27seconds into his first game in charge we scored and you just felt it was the start of something special, the love affair between David Moyes and Everton was well under way. And it carried on into his first full season when he took us to the brink of Europe and won the LMA manager of the season. It was like a dream. But it soon sould have turned into a nightmare the next season finishing 17th with our worst ever points total and a players revolt. With stars such as Wayne Rooney in this revolt it could have easily been the end of Moyes at Everton. But the fans love for him never blinked, and nor did his love for Everton. He could have walked and we would have wished him all the best, but he didnt. He learnt from his mistakes and moved forward.

    Then he produced a miracle, he did what 15 premierhsip managers could have only dreamed of at the start of the season. He transformed an ageing team who finished 17th into a team that finished 4th above Liverpool for the first time since last winning the league in 1987 despite spending a total of -28m in the summer and losing the best young player in the world. He gave Everton and us Evertonians our pride back. Something that we hadnt had for almost 20years. He bacame the only manager in Premiership history to win the LMA manager of the season award twice.

Moyes the Man
Now having had a poor start to the season some people have forgotten all this and dont feel he is the right man to take Everton forward. Those people need to look at themselves and think why? They think Moyes isnt good enough for us? I believe we arent good enough for Moyes. What he has done for this club will never be forgotten. Even if we do go down this season, which i feel is very unlikely, I hope the club stick by Moyes. There is no better manager for the Everton and he deserves our support. And im sure the real Evertonians who believe in Moyes will give him their full support.
