Wright was considered to be England Number one keeper when he first began appearing for Ipswich Town back in 1995.

Wright saved a penalty from veteran Georgi Hristov in a play off match with Barnsley that got Ipswich into the Premiership and he received high profile praises for his displays.

Richard was finally given the call up he deserved in a friendly against Malta...again saving a penalty.

However, with Richard now being on a bigger scene, it was a matter of time before Ipswich would have to admit defeat in keeping him at the club and was signed by Arsenal for an undisclosed fee in 2001.

Richard Wright took a back seat as England Number one David Seaman was still playing first team football and Wright was considered his successor at club and international level.

His Arsenal career was a disaster for Wright. Poor performances put Wright 3rd choice goalkeeper behind Stuart Taylor. This also had a detrimental effect on his International career as well as come World Cup 2002, David James would replace him.

Everton signed the former star for a fee of around £3.5m and it was believed that Moyes could motivate the former star player back to his form. He has improved in form since moving from Arsenal but with the arrival of veteran Nigel Martyn, Richard Wright has found himself down the pecking order once again.

During the summer the goalkeeper was linked with a move back to Ipswich after recent injuries has failed to bring the player appearances on the bench, let alone on the field.
