Reserve keeper Chris Howarth could be about to make the move to Scottish club St Johnstone on a year long loan deal according to The Courier newspaper. The 20-year old is behind Jussi Jaaskelainen, Ian Walker and Ali Al-Habsi at the Reebok Stadium, so a move north of the border would give him a better chance of gaining some valuable first team experience.

Saints are currently managed by former Wanderers favourite Owen Coyle and he says that Howarth could benefit from a move to Scotland in a similar way to which fellow goalkeeper Matthew Glennon did last season.

“Chris has been recommended to me by the same people who put us on the trail of Matt Glennon and if he turns out to be what we are looking for then we’ll try to bring him in.

“Bolton rate the boy highly and are keen to put him out on loan to get him games. We’ll have a look at him in a couple of closed doors matches next week and take it from there.”

Glennon, also an ex-Bolton player, moved back to England to join Huddersfield Town late last week leaving Coyle with Kevin Cuthbert as the only recognised goalkeeper at McDiarmid Park.
