Bolton Make New Johnson Bid

Bolton Wanderers are still in the running to sign England striker Andy Johnson after having an increased bid of £8.5 million accepted by Crystal Palace. The Wanderers initially had their record bid of £8 million turned down earlier this week whilst local rivals Wigan Athletic saw their slighty better offer accepted by the outspoken Palace chairman Simon Jordan.

Former Birmingham City star Johnson will hold preliminary talks with both clubs after he has turned out for the England B team against Belarus at Reading's Madejski Stadium later tonight.

Meanwhile West Bromwich Albion left back Paul Robinson has been linked with a move to either the Wanderers or Everton. The tough tackling defender signed a new deal only last summer but reports claim that he is on the verge of a swift return to the Premiership.
