Bolton Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside has played down talk linking the Trotters with a move for Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler.. Fowler is out of contract in the summer and still doesn't know whether or not he will be extending his second spell at Anfield thus prompting Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce to declare his interest in bringing the player to the Reebok Stadium.

Allardyce has helped to prolong the careers of many veteran players including the likes of Gary Speed, Youri Djorkaeff and Fernando Hierro but Gartside says that any talk of a move for Fowler is just speculation at the moment.

"Gary Speed is a fantastic example of a player who has kept himself fit and looked after himself - he has benefited from the attention to detail at Bolton and the medical services.

"Robbie, I am sure, would benefit from that if he came along but that is pure speculation, we've not even discussed it.

"I don't look after the football but I'm sure Sam is interested in somebody who can score 13 goals in 14 games against Bolton. At least he would stop scoring against us if he played for us."
