Sam Allardyce has backed recent signing Fabrice Fernandes to make a significant impact at Bolton Wanderers during this season..... The former Fulham, Rangers and Southampton star has proved to be a versatile performer for all his previous clubs and Allardyce beleives this will give the midfielder more opportunities to show his capabilities throughout the course of the season.

Allardyce is keen for the skillful Frenchman to repeat his form of the 2002-2003 season, arguably his best campaign since first arriving in England from Rennes five years ago.

"He's well versed with the demands of the Premiership and he can bring lot to the squad in terms of wide left, wide right or centre midfield. His experience will play a big part over the coming season." said Allardyce to the official website

"The more roles he can play, the more games he will play. Once he gets an opportunity to play in the side I will expect him to show the sort of form he showed at Southampton, particularly under Gordon Strachan.

"If he can try and keep hold of the shirt and make life difficult for the person who he has replaced then we'll have a very valuable player for the team this season."
