Former Bolton Wanderers loanee Christian Wilhelmsson says that the style of football which the Trotters reverted back to was one of the reasons why he ended his stay at the Reebok Stadium earlier than expected.

The Swedish international was one of a number of signings made by former manager Sammy Lee last summer, with the 28-year old joining for a year on loan from French club FC Nantes.

However, just eight Premier League substitute appearances and a handful of cup games later, the winger was left unused by current boss Gary Megson and he cut short his spell at Bolton in January in order to make a similar move to Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna.

Now Wilhelmsson has explained to Setanta Sport why his brief stay in England did not work out in the way that he and others had hoped.

"I had a great time in Bolton for the first two months, but then it was difficult when they changed the manager and the manager had different thoughts and other players he wanted to use," said Wilhelmsson

"That was a different experience because that is not how it works outside England. He (Megson) wants his players and he wants it in his way so he changed the physical coach and the doctor and everything so that is a bit different.

"But the team-mates were great and I had a good time and have got a lot of good friends and it was a nice experience. Of course I had big expectations and was looking forward a lot to playing in The Premier League."

"He (Megson) was a new man with different thoughts and I am not that kind of player that plays that football, I don't represent that kind of football, So then there was, for me, nothing to do than to change to a club that plays fantastic football, and I came to a good club that does that very well.

Wilhelmsson has not ruled out making a return to England in the future, but he stresses that it would have to be with a team which suits his overall playing style.

"It has to be one great team [to return to England], a good team that plays football in training at least! Then maybe."

One of Wilhelmsson's more memorable  league appearances for Bolton came in their infamous 1-0 win over local rivals Manchester United back in November 2007.
