Championship side Coventry City are hoping to persuade Bolton Wanderers striker Heidar Helguson to join them on loan for the rest of the season but their interest is likely to be snubbed by Wanderers bosses who themselves need the Icelander for their relegation run in.

Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman managed Helguson when the pair were together at Fulham and he wants the player to boost his attacking options going into the final part of the season.

However, Bolton too have an important run in to come and manager Gary Megson has already stated that none of his first team players will be allowed to leave the club under any circumstances.

Helguson has had a difficult season with injuries since his £2 million switch last summer but has nevertheless made a suitable impression whenever he has been in the side, as was the case during Bolton's UEFA Cup first leg tie against Sporting Lisbon last week.

He has made two league starts whilst at Bolton against Reading and former club Fulham and on both occasions he has managed to hit the back of the net.
