Kevin Davies beleives that Bolton Wanderers are now an all round better team since they sold their star player Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea for a club record £15 million sale in last month's transfer window.

Anelka was the subject of much speculation throughout the first half of the season and a few weeks ago the Frenchman finally completed a move away from the Reebok Stadium to the title challengers.

The 28-year old remains the Wanderers top goalscorer with eleven goals but his former strike partner Davies is of the opinion that the club has done better as a whole since Anelka's move South.

"We look a better team and we played some good stuff at times, He (Anelka) purely scored goals for us but I think as a team we look solid and together and we could've had two or three simple goals." said Davies to the Bolton News

"We look a lot more solid at the back and are looking good going forward."

Davies was also disappointed that the club managed to concede late on during Saturday's game against Portsmouth as Lassana Diarra scored the all important winning goal nine minutes from time.

"It's the worst feeling when you have played so well. We feel like we've been mugged at the end. We are all down but we've got to try to take positives out of it because if we keep performing like that we will win more than we lose." added the ex-Southampton forward

The weekend result against Pompey leaves the Wanderers sitting in 15th place, just a couple of points ahead of the teams who currently sit in the drop zone.
