A Bolton Wanderers reserve side containing no fewer than four players from the first team squad was heavily defeated at the County Ground last night as title chasing Liverpool ran out 3-0 winners with goals coming from Daniel Pacheco, Ray Putterill and Nathan Eccleston.

Two out of the three goals were from late penalties but that inexcused what was most possibly the worst showing from Jimmy Phillips side all season as they recorded yet another defeat.

Home goalkeeper Ian Walker, a former England international with almost twenty years of experience behind him, was the Bolton saviour as he pulled off a number of telling saves from Jordy Brouwer, Ryan Flynn and Reds skipper Jay Spearing.

Walker's experience was backed up by the presence of first teamers Nicky Hunt, Mikel Alonso and Swiss international Blerim Dzemaili but none of the three could inspire a team which consisted of much inexperience.

Liverpool took the lead ten minutes after the break when Spanish youngster Pacheco took advantage of a mistake by Bolton's Chris Basham to fire the ball off the post and past Walker.

The Wanderers had their first chance of the game through Temitope Obadeyi on 84 minutes but a minute earlier the game had already been made safe from the penalty spot by Putterill after Hunt had held back Brouwer.

In the final minute a handball by Basham presented Reds substitute Eccleston the chance of scoring from the spot and he duly made no mistake with a confident effort past Walker.
