Chelsea finally got their top target this afternoon by agreeing to pay Bolton Wanderers a fee of £15 million for the services of French striker Nicolas Anelka in a deal which now becomes the Trotters record sale.

The 28-year old Anelka, who was also Bolton's record purchase when arriving from Fenerbahce in August 2006, joins the London club with immediate effect and win go straight into their side for the game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Anelka came to Bolton with the reputation of being a sulker and a football nomad, but he put that misconception to bed straight away and went on to become one of Bolton's most talented strikers in recent years.

He was the Wanderers top goalscorer in 2006-2007 with 12 goals and currently leads the way this season with 11 strikes from the halfway point of the 2007-2008 campaign.

In eighteen months at the Reebok Stadium he made 53 league appearances, scoring 21 times and was a big crowd favourite with the people at Bolton despite not being at the club for long.
