Former Deportivo La Coruna manager Javier Irureta is beleived to be interested in the managers job at Bolton Wanderers but it remains to be seen if the Trotters go down the route of aquiring a leader from foreign shores.

Birmingham City's Steve Bruce, Chris Coleman of Real Sociedad and Leicester City boss Gary Megson have all been refused permission to speak to Bolton about the role which was made vacant by Sammy Lee two days ago leaving chairman Phil Gartside pondering his next move.

The 59-year old Irureta could be an interesting proporsition, he has been in football management since 1984 and has had spells with Real Oviedo, Athletico Bilbao,Celta Vigo, Real Betis and Sociedad.

However, it is with Deportivo between 1998 and 2005 where he has had most success. He won the La Liga title with them in 2000 and helped them to the Copa Del Rey two years later as well as regularly qualifying for the Champions League in successive seasons.

Irureta has also won two Spanish Super Cups in 2000 and 2002 to add to his honours cabinet and according to Sky Sports is beleived to want to manage in the Premiership.

Bolton have never had a manager from foreign climes in charge before but clubs like Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Portsmouth have all tried overseas management with mixed success.
