Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies could be missing from action for up to six weeks after suffering a hamstring tear during the second half of Saturday's 3-1 defeat against Newcastle United.

The big target man picked up the injury with less than an hour played and was replaced by recent signing Heidar Helguson for the final half an hour against the Toon Army.

Now Wanderers manager Sammy Lee has confirmed that the influential striker will be on the sidelines until the end of next month leaving Helguson free to make his first Bolton start at former club Fulham later this week.

"Davo has suffered a slight tear in a hamstring and will be out for up to six weeks. It's obviously a massive blow as he's such an influential player in our team but it will give someone else a chance to stake their claim" said Lee

Davies joins Stelios Giannakopoulos, Ricardo Gardner and Blerim Dzemaili on the treatment table but there could be better news for Ricardo Vaz-Te as he awaits the results of a scan on the foot injury he picked up at the weekend.

Meanwhile, Christian Wilhelmsson has been granted international clearance by the French Football Association and will now be available for selection by the Wanderers.
