A Wigan Athletic veterans team consisting of ex-Wanderers players Simon Farnworth, Neil Redfearn and David McKearney thrashed Bolton in the North West Masters Football tournament at the Manchester Evening News Arena earlier tonight.

The Latics defeated the Wanderers by a 5-1 scoreline in the latter stages to set up an eagerly awaited final against home city Manchester United.

Bolton lost 4-1 to Manchester City in their first game and drew the second game three a piece with United prior to their five goal thumping against Wigan.

David Lee (pictured), veteran of three promotions with the Trotters in the 1990's, was undoubtedly Bolton's best player as has often been the case in previous years.

Goalkeeper Andy Rhodes has played more games for the club in the Masters tournament than he did when actually on loan at Burnden Park in 1995. The Doncaster-born shot stopper sat on the bench for one game at Derby County during the clubs old Division 1 days but is now in his fourth year representing the club in this tournament.

Gary Parkinson and Nicky Spooner both made their Masters debut for the Trotters in this tournament.
