Manchester United have ruled out making a move for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka this summer to quash weekend reports which claimed that the French international was on his way to Old Trafford in exchange for Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside held talks with United's chief executive David Gill at the weekend to clarify the news reports and Gill admitted that Anelka was not on the wanted list of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking to the official Bolton website, Gartside once again confirmed that Bolton would not be selling any of their best players including Anelka who joined the club in a record £8 million transfer just over ten months agol.

"David Gill has confirmed to me that Manchester United has no interest in Nicolas Anelka. Sammy Lee is looking to build a squad for next season and we absolutely have no interest in selling any of our better players. Nicolas, of course, is one such player" said Gartside

Meanwhile, Bolton could be set to renew their interest in Anelka's former Manchester City team mate and close friend Antoine Sibierski after he left Newcastle United under the Bosman ruling.

Sibierski was a Wanderers target a year ago but instead chose to play in the UEFA Cup with the Magpies.
