Former Northern Ireland international and Bolton Wanderers defender Gerry Taggart has made a return to football with Blue Square North side Tamworth after almost a year out of the game.

The 36-year old Ulsterman was released as player/coach from Stoke City at the end of the 2005-2006 campaign and spent the last twelve months gaining his coaching badges.

Now he will link up with the Lambs for next season to prolong his career in football which has seen him serve the likes of Manchester City, Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers, Leicester City and Stoke City since 1989.

Taggart was a key member of the Bolton team which lifted the 1997 Division One title and during his time with Wanderers he formed a useful partnership with fellow defender Chris Fairclough.

In 1995 he became the clubs first £1 million player when arriving from Barnsley and went onto score a goal in the 4-1 win against Charlton Athletic in April 1997, the last game at Burnden Park.
