Bolton Wanderers reserves gained their first piece of silverware in twelve years earlier this evening as they beat Newcastle United by a 3-0 scoreline at the County Ground. Manchester City's defeat against Sheffield United and Manchester United's completion of their reserve fixtures means that Bolton now snatch first place in the final reserve league game of the season.

Two young strikers helped to seal the title, with German youth international Kevin Wolze and his England counterpart Temitope Obadeyi both on target against the Magpies.

Robert Sissons showed Wanderers attacking intent from the off when he nodded wide a Chris Basham free kick in the seventh minute and this was followed up by an angled shot by Wolze which was well saved by Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Bolton took the lead on twenty one minutes when Basham and Wolze combined well, with the latter unleashing a superb first time shot from the left which gave Forster no chance at all.

A quarter of an hour later, and the Wanderers doubled their lead as Obadeyi hit the first of his two goals for the evening. Ali Al-Habsi launched a long goal kick into the path of goalscorer Wolze and he fed the ball through to the advancing Obadeyi who proceeded by netting his first goal of the reserve season since moving to the club from Coventry City last summer.

Obadeyi nearly hit the killer punch before the half time interval but was denied by Forster. However the Birmingham-born youngster made amends in the early stages of the second half when converting from close range.

Canadian defender David Edgar then went close for the visitors but Blazej Augustyn showed great awareness to deny a Newcastle goal when hacking the ball off his own goal line to safety.

Sissons and Wolze had chances to put a fourth goal on the Wanderers tally but it was the Toon Army who hit back when Edgar headed home with less than ten minutes to play.
