Bolton could be about to hand Manchester United full back Phil Bardsley a Premiership lifeline if reports in the media are to be beleived. The 21-year old has just gone back to Old Trafford following a highly contraversial loan spell in the SPL with Glasgow Rangers where he fell out with former Gers boss Paul Le Guen over tactics.

United looked set to loan the youngster out again this month to gain experience, this time to Championship side Sunderland, but Black Cats boss Roy Keane says that a deal to bring his former United team mate to Wearside has fallen through due to interest from a Premiership club.

Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers and Aston Villa are all names supposedly interested in the right sided player who has also gained experience of first team football following loan spells with Belgian club Royal Antwerp and Lancashire outfit Burnley.

Bolton are in need of someone to compete with first choice right back Nicky Hunt after fellow defender Joey O'Brien was ruled out for the whole of the season with knee ligament damage.

Another name recently thrown into the frame is Real Madrid's experienced Miguel Salgado. The 31-year old has made over 200 appearances during a lengthy spell at the Bernabau and any Bolton move for the Spaniard will rank alongside those such as Nicolas Anelka, Jay-Jay Okocha, Youri Djorkaeff and Fernando Hierro.
